LAST week, Grace Maxwell Murphy and her husband William McMahon travelled over to the two-day Royal Norfolk Show outside Norwich, accompanied by their three children, who brought three friends along with them.

Also loaded up on the truck were the Co Galway couple’s Balmoral winner Gleann Rua Yellowstone, a five-year-old dun gelding by Liosderg Silver Pride, who finished sixth in his maxi cob class under McMahon, and the stallion Glenville Glic (Glencarrig Knight - Clooneybreen Peigín, by Currachmore Cashel).

Partnered by Maxwell Murphy, the Francis Murphy-bred six-year-old won his Connemara class, which was a Horse of the Year Show qualifier, and the non-Welsh Mountain & Moorland championship.

At the end of the day, Maxwell Murphy and Glenville Glic stood reserve in the show’s ridden supreme championship to Grace Binding and the 11-year-old gelding Castlemorris Diamond (Keamore Diamond Clover - Blackmoor Silver Mist, by Silver Granite), winners earlier of the ridden Irish Draught championship and reserve in the ridden light horse championship.

Among his many successes at home, Glenville Glic was twice a winner in-hand at the annual Connemara Pony Show in Clifden while, under Maxwell Murphy, the grey was crowned ridden supreme pony champion at the 2025 Northern Ireland Festival in Cavan. On their return home, there was a shorter trip to Sunday’s show in Corrandulla, where Glenville Glic was shown by Maxwell Murphy to win the Connemara stallion class and the breed championship.
