AMATEUR riders had their second chance to book their place at the Dublin Horse Show at Kernans last Sunday. There was another large field of 112 battling it out for the eight places on offer.

Taking this win was Gwyn Yemm (AA) aboard his own Doonini Z, when they were the fastest of six triple clears in the 13-way jump-off in a time of 35.89 seconds.

Doonini Z is a 13-year-old gelding, by Denzel Van Het Meulenhof and out of the Clochard-sired dam, Echtweltoff Boogie Woogie. This combination last qualified for Dublin Horse Show in 2025 and made it to the final championship.

Less than two seconds behind were last year’s Dublin Horse Show champions, Niamh Quinn (AA) and Clonguish Vivaro, when they came home in 37.47. This 17-year-old gelding is by Vivaldo Van Het Costersveild and is out of Clonguish Gold.

Amanda-Jayne Comyn (A) and her own Eirian Gatsby took third place, when they crossed the line in a time of 38.19. Bred by Cormac and Neil McKay, the 15-year-old mare is by Gatsby and out of the High Scope-sired dam, Black High Scope.

Liz Keegan Comerford (A) and Edoxtown Cash Cruise remained within the 39-second barrier, clocking 38.37 for eventual fourth. This eight-year-old gelding was bred by Padraic Mannion and is by CC Captain Cruise and out of Maries’s Joy.

Carole Smillie (A) and Larkhill Countess followed closely behind, delivering a clear in 38.47 for fifth place. This 13-year-old mare, which was bred by Brian McAuley is by Flexible and is out of the Crosstown-sired dam, Dunadry Lady.

Barbara Clarke (AA) and Lupins Lux Z were last of the double clears in 40.06 for sixth place. A 16-year-old gelding, he is by Lux Z and is out of the Cruising-sired dam, Thornfield Lupin. This gelding has had much success in the past up to Grand Prix level under the command of Ger Clarke.

Last year’s reserve Champions, Caitlin Duffy and Jockeyhall Midas Touch put in a very fast round, clocking 40.06, but four faults saw them slot into seventh. Last year, the combination also booked their round in Kernans. Bred by Josette Gore, this 15-year-old gelding is by Baloubet Du Rouet and out of the Coevers Diamond Boy-sired Clista.

Vicky Curran (AA) and RNH Coco Chanel also had one on the ground, but in a slower time of 36.96 for eighth place. Owned by John Curran and bred by Norman Hammond, the 10-year-old mare is by Celtic Hero B Z and is out of the Ustinov-sired dam, RNH Elisa.
