SOME 80 combinations lined out to contest the €2,000 1.35m North Star Classic on Thursday at Barnadown, run in conjunction with the Irish Breeders’ Classic. Run as a two-phase class, 25 of the original starters maintained clear rounds. Taking the win was Harry Wood riding Max O’Reilly Hyland’s BP Limitless (Elvis Ter Putte x Laughton’s Flight) when they came home in a time of 29.92 seconds.

Less than a second separated the next position as Shane O’ Reilly and Brian McConville’s Lancer Luck crossed the line in a time of 30.63. Junior rider Jack Kent and Origi Van De Bandam were fractions behind, clocking 30.71 for third place. Kent was chased home by Paul Beecher and Glamstone, as they galloped home in 30.75 seconds for fourth.

European Junior Champion Emily Moloney and Cruising on The Ridge secured fifth place when they stopped the clock in a time of 30.87. Rounding up the top six was Mikey Pender and the seven-year-old GCS Othello, clear in 31.63.

On Saturday, winner of the €3,000 1.35m North Classic Championship was young rider Robin Carey with his own Luicruz when they were the fastest of 21 double clears in a time of 26.28.

Carey’s closest rival was Max Foley and Hugh McOwan’s Illusion De Hus when they clocked 28.42. Foley also secured third place with the Bravo Hughes-owned seven-year-old HHS Arezzo, in a time of 28.73.

Shane O’Reilly and Lancer Luck were back in the ribbons as they took fourth place when they galloped home in a time of 29.10. Denise Hopkins slotted into fifth with Mdsandyhill Princess Mia when they recorded a clear in 29.39, ahead of Catherine Thornton and Derryinver Truffle in a time of 31.02.

George Mullins 1.30m Classic

Tori Dunn enjoyed good success in the George Mullins International Horse Transport 1.30m Class on Thursday, taking first and second places. Dunn delivered her best result with Z Seven Amour, with a clear in 64.04. She filled the next place with BP Maestro when they put in another foot-perfect performance in a time of 64.76.

A clear from Denise Hopkins and Mdsandyhill Princess Mia in 64.81 saw them take third, ahead of Lt Michaeli Byrne and Derrycush in 67.02. Fifth place belonged to Chloe Hughes Kennedy and Starouge, clear in 72.77, while in sixth was Dermott Lennon and Kinmar Right on Time in 75.66.

Tori Dunn returned to the winner’s enclosure on Friday as she took the win in the George Mullins-sponsored 1.30m. Placed second with BP Maestro the day before, this time they made no mistake as they lodged the winning round in 64.13.

Mark Cleary and the eight-year-old Primo Merona took second when clear in 65.46, ahead of Denise Hopkins and Mdsandy Princess Mia, clear in 65.91.

A clear from Paul McDermott and Lagans Kbs Calvo in 66.34 saw them take fourth, ahead of Maura Counihan and Cassandra Della Caccia (67.30). Completing the top six was Francis Connors and Untouchable Cavalier when they stopped the clock in a time of 67.58.
