ALWAYS a highlight of the show, the Boomerang title saw 40 hopefuls line out on Sunday morning.
The crown went to Rhys Williams and Coco Douglas when they were fastest of just four double clears in 38.04.
Owned by Kristina O’Neill and bred by Maria Griffin, this seven-year-old mare is by Douglas x Pacino. The combination secured their place by finishing 11th in the first final on Wednesday and second on Thursday.
Speaking after the win Rhys said: “I am over the moon with this result as it was always one that I wanted to win. The mare is a super horse with plenty of scope and it’s a great one to have on her record. So many big stars have won this and to be on this roll of honour is one to be very proud of.
“After Mikey [Pender] went I thought that it was unbeatable, but thankfully I made up time in the turn back after the double, and then in the turn back to the last line.
“I am really happy for my friend Aaron [Costello] who placed sixth. He put in a super round with my mum’s horse Violeta. He has produced her from a four-year-old and has put in all the hard work. The mare is named after a family friend of ours and she has a very special place in our hearts”.
Double handed in the jump-off, Mikey Pender delivered his best result with HHS Venice coming home in 38.66 for second place. Owned by Antonio Bravo and bred by Bravo Hughes the seven-year-old mare is by Emerald Van’t Ruytershof x Heritage. This duo finished fourth in the first qualifier.
Jason Foley also had two in the jump-off, and he put in his best performance with JM Forever Red coming home with nothing to add in 40.13 for third. This six-year-old gelding is owned by Castlefield Farm and his breeder Jimmy Lawler and is by Tyson x Luidam. This pairing impressed in the first qualifier, taking the runner-up position.
First to go against the clock, Tim Brennan answered all the questions with GCS Angelina in 40.26, which would later see him take fourth. This six-year-old homebred mare is by Aganix x Vigo.
Last to go, Kian Dore knew what he needed to do as he took it on with his father Carl’s WHS King Lincoln.
However four faults in 40.38 proved only good enough for fifth place. Bred by Michael O’Sullivan, the seven-year-old gelding is by Mr Lincoln B x Lux Z. This combination finished third in the first qualifier on Wednesday and first on Thursday.
As mentioned above it was a good day for the Williams family as Aaron Costello partnered Paula William’s Parc Kannan-sired mare Violeta into sixth when they finished on four faults in 41.57.
