CROWDS flocked to Tattersalls last weekend for a packed programme of top-class show jumping, with competition ranging from ponies, amateurs and right up to 1.50m Premier League. The show, which is run in association with Rolestown Show and The Ward Union Hunt, offered substantial prize funds in all classes.
On Friday, the 1.30m Droimisi-sponsored class saw 46 combinations battle it out for the €1,200 prize fund. Claiming victory was junior rider Jack Galway aboard the Bridget Speirs-owned BT Roca Rey with a clear in 62.71. Brendan Murphy was his closest rival aboard Sean Mulkern’s ABS Misty, coming home in 68.60.
Robert Harrison was less than a second behind with CES Wicked Contender, when delivering a clear in 69.50. A clear from Megan McGettigan and the Daniel Coyle-owned Uptown Christov in 69.74 saw them take fourth, ahead of Paul Kennedy and Sirius 11 in 70.66. Patrick Doyle slotted into sixth with a clear in 71.06.
The 1.10m class, which was jointly sponsored by Davies, LHK, Portella and Flynn, saw 38 pairings battle it out for the €800 prize fund. Taking this win was Eve Hedderman and Gomina in 67.81. Junior rider Alexandra Butler and Kingston King took second with a clear in 75.01, while in third was fellow junior rider Caoimhe O’Meara and Susie Quatro, with a clear in 75.15.
Patrick Doyle was back in the ribbons, taking fourth with the six-year-old Kitkat BW with a clear in 84.37, ahead of Madelaine Gervais and Estrella De La Pomme, clear in 86.31. Maura Counihan and LNG Ivy League took sixth when they came home with nothing to add in 86.66.
Taking the win in the €1,000 Sean Monaghan-sponsored 1.20m class was Abdulaziz Albaloul and Roscrib De Ross, when fastest of six clears in 73.42 seconds. Gerard Clarke was almost five seconds behind with the six-year-old Lupins All Star, clocking 78.50 for second. Rachel Kyne and Flexible Cruz took third, coming home in 78.80, while in fourth was Jack M Murphy and Momo Va, clear in 79.98. Sophie Richards and Boleybawn Blue took fifth when they came home in 85.90, while in sixth was Hallie Crowe aboard Deirdre Connolly’s Cushlas Du Mondale in a time of 87.49.
Saturday
On Saturday, 92 combinations contested the €750 Ballypatrick and Cooley Stud-sponsored 1.20m class and half of the field delivered double clears. Claiming victory was Jack O’Shaughnessy and the seven-year-old Kumera BW, when they came home in a blistering time of 25.72. His closest rival was fellow young rider Kian Dore and the five-year-old Creevyquinn Ss Diamante, who clocked 29.21.
Third place went to Eddie Moloney and the five-year-old Soco Flex in a time of 30.76, while in fourth was Shane O’Brien and the five-year-old Adelaide II in 30.96. Seamus Hughes Kennedy and the six-year-old HK Lui took fifth when stopping the clock in 31.16, while in sixth was young rider Olivia Shanahan and the six-year-old Greannanstown Tiny Dancer in 32.06.
The €1,000 DMC and Ballyward-sponsored 1.30m and six/seven-year-old class attracted 104 starters and the placings went down to the wire, with only fractions of a second dividing the top places. The top-six horses in the line-up were all aged seven or under.
Taking the win was Sean Monaghan and the Aloga Equestrian-owned seven-year-old Champagne BW, with a clear in 28.23. Eoghan Fahy guided Jules Cournane’s seven-year-old Melody to a clear in 28.24 for second. Tim MacDonagh took third with his own seven-year-old Ushi Ffa Z, when he stopped the clock clear in 28.28.
A clear in 29.49 from Nicholas Butler and his own seven-year-old, Crossriver Lackavrea saw them take fourth. Tim MacDonagh took another share of the prize money, when he delivered a clear with his own six-year-old Gypsy Hollypark Skippy in 30.75 for fifth. Completing the top-six line-up was Niamh McEvoy and the seven-year-old Jasmim D Ariel, clear in 30.84.
