CAVAN Equestrian played host to the second round of the Young Rider and Children on Horses Dubin Horse Show qualifiers last Saturday with large numbers being recorded in each category. For the first time, the young rider’s qualifier was not held on the same weekend as the pony qualifiers.
In the 1.35m-1.40m, a total of 42 went to post and, from those, seven triple clears were delivered. Taking the first ticket was Connaught rider Paddy Reape and Mr Rocky Blue when they came home in 36.76 seconds. Wexford rider Lauren Adams was only fractions behind with Quina DW when they stopped the clock in a time of 36.82. Emily Moloney’s calculated riding saw her partner Temple Alice to a qualifying spot, when she came home in 37.11 for third. Cáit Kenny stayed within the 38-second barrier aboard Good Guy D’Authuit, clocking 37.63 for eventual fourth. Lauren Adams returned to the line-up taking fifth with Caddie Z, when clocking 38.12. Jenny Dunlop and Questro Z completed the top six in 38.15.
1.25m-1.30m
The 1.25m-1.30m proved very competitive with 97 going to post and nine triple clears being delivered in a 19-way jump-off. The jump-off was extremely competitive with the top six finishers coming home within 35 seconds. Leading the victory lap was Connaught rider Conor Gilmartin riding the Niall McGarry-owned Innisfree Beachbabe, clocking 34.11 seconds.
Little separated the next placing as Arielle Allen (Kandice Z) and Iseult Fleming (Cristallo Boy) both clocked 34.34 to share second place. Alanna Fagan was hot on their heels aboard the eight-year-old Billy Hastings in a time of 34.49 for eventual fourth. Fagan was chased home by Katie Nallon and the Bob Sweeney-owned Mulvin Cliodam who clocked 34.62 for fifth place. Alex Finney and Absolutely Ingmar Z put in a gallant attempt, but their time of 34.65 saw them take sixth place.
1.10m-1.15m
The 1.10m-1.15m saw 82 going to post in the three-round competition. Connaught rider Jack O’Shaughnessy was the clear winner as he partnered the six-year-old Kumera BW to a clear in 37.62. Jack Cash and the five-year-old Pessoa took the runner-up spot when they came home clear in 44.85. Craig Hopkins delivered a clear with Brian Duff’s seven-year-old BEX Anka in 50.40 for third. Edie Codd and HDI Restless (7yo) was fastest of the four-faulters in 39.16 for eventual fourth. Hilary Brannigan also had one on the ground with Everdeen Waldstar Z (6yo) in 39.67 for fifth place. Conor Hayes and Gailes Dream (6yo) also had one on the ground but in a slower time of 41.82 to finish sixth.
1.15m COH
Just 21 combinations battled it out in the 1.15m Children on Horses qualifier and two double clears were delivered. Taking the win was Oscar Hand and LDEC Solo, when they had one down in the third round in 48.56 seconds. James Walsh opted to not contest the third round with Ger O’Neill’s Currency but their second-round clear in 38.96 secured them second place.
Walsh also took third place with Ballygerald Blue Belle when they had four faults in 39.85 in the second round. Ellie Sheane and Cooley Limited Edition also had one down in the second round in 39.85 for eventual fourth. Zac Hanna and Marylynn TN had two down in the second round in 44.32 for fifth place, while in sixth place was Tosh Widger and Grantstown Charmer, finishing on their first-round score of clear in 68.27.
