SATURDAY evening’s MEC 1.30m Grand Prix had 32 starters and just three managed to produce a double clear round.

The class was won by Shane O’Reilly riding the eight-year-old mare BWE Special Rose (I’m Special De Muze x Camilo De Haar Z), owned and bred by Brian McConville. The duo posted a jump-off time of 37.25 to secure first place.

Young rider Jenny Dunlop rode her father Andrew’s Belgian-bred gelding Questro Z into second place in 40.91.

Daren Hopkins and another eight-year-old Ballywalter Stables’ Elite Della Caccia (Elvis ter Putte x Cardento) were third in 43.87.

Victoria Loane’s Dutch-bred Lord of the Rings BMH was guided into fourth by Sean Foley as the fastest four-faulter, while Ailsa Sexton and her own Sparky Lad (Ringfort Cruise x Basil III Masterpiece VII), bred by Adrian Hill, finished in fifth place despite two fences on the ground.

Remarkably John McEntee and his own Dutch-bred Hobalo took sixth place, even though they notched up a score of 31 faults in the second round.
