ACTION at The Meadows on Sunday moved to the Young Riders and Children on Horses who had their opportunity to book their place to the Dublin Horse Show at the first qualifier.

First up were the riders in the 1.25/1.30m qualifier with 96 battling it out for one of the five qualifying tickets on offer. Of the original starters, eight booked their place in the third jump-off round. Claiming the first ticket was Ulster rider Connie McFadden and Domar Van De Neerheide when fastest of four triple clears in 39.12.

It was a good day for the McFadden family as next in line was Cara, who partnered the seven-year-old Orville Jack to a clear in 40.10. Ted Donohoe and Tankardstown Wilco also maintained a clean sheet, just fractions slower in 40.52 for third. Last of the triple clears and slotting into fourth place was Niamh Devlin and HHS Toronto in 47.25.

James Derwin was fastest of the four-faulters with Amos L Z in 40.08 for fifth place and the final ticket.

1.35/1.40m

Just 38 contested the 1.35/1.40m section, which offered four qualifying slots. No double clears were delivered in the seven-way jump-off, where Alex O’Connor took victory with Carreras 12 when fastest of the four-fault rounds in 35.75 seconds.

Robert Russell had one on the ground with Ballyrobin Nimmerdor in 35.84 for second, ahead of Conor Brennan and MHS I’m the One in 36.68. Taking fourth place and the final ticket was Kate McGovern and SHS Sybel when they had two down in 35.55.

1.10/ 1.15m

There was a big entry for the 1.10/1.15m qualifier, with 80 combinations looking to be one of the five to book their place. This decider went to three rounds with eight maintaining clean sheets. Taking the win was Leinster rider Max Foley and the Hugh McOwan-owned seven-year-old Illusion de Hus in a time of 34.88.

Foley was chased home by Johan Fitzpatrick Burns and Causeway Star who crossed the line in 34.98. Third place belonged to Alice Moloney and MHS Jolene in 35.01, ahead of Ciara Geaney and CS Lux Chacco (7yo) in 35.36. Accounting for fifth place was Daniel Ring and Kilkern Quality in 35.65

Children on Horses

Leinster riders took the first two places in the Children on Horses division which offered four qualifying places. Taking the win was Alice Hartford and Kilderrys Joint Venture when they delivered a triple clear in 40.09. A second divided the placings as Chantal Whitehead partnered MHS Cuffesgrange to a clear in 41.09.

Last of the triple clears and slotting into third was Millie Jeffers and Glidawn Gigi in 42.36. Edward Walsh Jnr put in a very fast round with Diamante, clocking 37.50, but four faults saw them take fourth, ahead of James Walsh and Ballygerald Blue Belle, who finished on four faults in 46.17. Completing the top six was Ella Rush and Beach Buggy after they finished with eight faults in a time of 37.78.
