CAVAN played host to its July Summer Horse Championships, with good entries being recorded over the course of three days.

Winner of the 1.35m Table A speed class on Saturday was Aoife McCabe and Heritage Enigma, when they delivered a clear in 63.29. Resident rider Victoria Clarke was hot on her heels aboard the eight-year-old Cherry Candy Girl with a clear in 66.13 - exactly the same time as Andrew Hodgins and Shanaclough Luichew to share second place.

Daniel Carroll and Hollywood took fourth place, when they maintained a clean sheet in 67.53. Grace McHugh and Berlios Van De Kapel slotted into fifth (0/ 67.85), while in sixth was Caitlin Glennon and Hermine Du Parc (0/ 72.93).

Junior rider Hugo Segrave led the victory lap in the 1.30m class, when he came home with nothing to add aboard Killeaneys Mr T in 25.38. Lucy Kelly was back in the ribbons having won the 1.30m on Friday, this time taking the runner-up spot with Trinity D’L with a clear in 25.94. Edward Little was almost three seconds behind with his own AKD Carnlea Blue in 28.68. Julia Kennedy and Killerisk Clair took fourth with a clear in 29.31, ahead of John Floody and MK Ringo Starr (0/ 32.71). Sixth place belonged to Keith Moloney and NS Hardrock (0/ 33.21).

Winner of the 1.20m class was Brogen McCrum and Tailormade For Me, when they galloped home with a clean sheet in 25.86. Amateur rider Lisa Hitchmough (AA) and Jessica 55 also delivered a clear but in a slower time of 29.32 for second. Feaha Moore and Kardy Rock took third when clear in 29.83, ahead of Sarah Connolly (AA) and MP Cosmina (0/ 31.10) in fourth. Aoife McCabe also collected in this class, taking fifth with CBI Supremacy (0/31.30), ahead of Julia Kennedy Killerisk Clair (0/ 31.54).

Maeve Coffey and Creevaghstables Buttler Jones took the win in the 1.10m class, when they were fastest of 38 double clears in 36.49. Amateur rider Sarah Connolly (AA) and MP Cosmina returned to the line-up taking second when they stopped the clock in 36.59. Junior rider Kaitlin McCrory and Cazadee took third (36.96), while in fourth was Dominic Curley and Kempten DKS (37.13). Carole Smillie (A) and Larkhill Countess took fifth (39.92), ahead of Samantha Bretzer (AA) and Salander in 42.94.
