ON Sunday morning, the Karlswood Leinster Tour came to an end with large numbers being recorded in the final round. In the 1.35m division, it was Lt Raphael Lee and Derrycush who took the win when they delivered the fastest of nine double clears from a field of 68 in a time of 30.97.
This was also enough for Lee to take the overall title. Lee also took third place with Kinmar Coor Dubh, stopping the clock in 32.06.
Junior rider James Derwin put in a gallant attempt with Amos LZ, coming home in 31.47 to separate Lee’s placings. Accounting for eventual fourth was Emma O’Dwyer and Rubetski, when stopping the clock in 33.95. Robert Splaine secured fifth place with Coolcorron Lachlan, with a clear in 34.50, while in sixth was Nicholas Butler and the seven-year-old Crossriver Lackavrea, clear in 34.78.
Jack Murphy was crowned the leading young rider of the league and won the bursary to Bertram Allen.
1.20m
Taking the win in the 1.20m Final was Connaught young rider Jack O’Shaughnessy and Kumera BW, when he galloped home clear in 29.34. Following a great show in Tubberbride the day before, Sven Hadley added to his haul when taking second with Maximum Numero Too HSH, with a clear in 30.99. Hadley also took sixth with John Deegan’s Machnus Lux, when he delivered another clear in 32.16.
Junior rider Edie Codd took third with HDI Restless, when she left them all standing in 31.41. A clear in 31.79 aboard BWE Vain Hero secured Shane O’Reilly fourth place. A familiar name in the amateur ranks, Lorraine Younge (AA) and Belfieldflight took fifth, coming home clear in 32.12.
1.10m
It was a case of sibling rivalry in the 1.10m division, with sisters Laura Walshe and Lisa Doyle going head to head. On this occasion, it was Laura that came out on top, claiming victory with her home-bred Ballinaguilkey Heritage with a clear in 25.88.
Lisa Doyle put in a great attempt with another home-bred, Ballinaguilkey Dignified, with a clear in 26.21. It was a good day for the sisters, with Lisa taking the 1.10m league by just one point from her sister Laura but, not to be outdone, Laura went on to win 1.20m overall league.
Edie Codd also took her place in this line-up, when taking third with HDI Restless with a clear in 26.30. Junior rider Dylan Barrett and China Man accounted for fourth with a clear in 26.47. Lorraine Younge (AA) added to her record when taking fifth with Adieu Flight when she came home with a clean sheet in 26.95. Rounding off the top six was Vicky Curran (AA) and Rnh Coco Chanel, clear in 27.06.
Amateur Grand Prix
The amateur Grand Prix, which was supported by O’Brien’s Saddlery and Equestrian World, saw a win for Amanda-Jayne Comyn (AA). Riding her own Eirian Gatsby, she left her rivals behind as she delivered a clear in 33.07.
Less than a second behind was Padraig Fives (A) and Mermus R Russel with a clear in 33.42. Third place belonged to Sarah Burns (A) and Georgies Star, clear in 34.79, while in fourth was Lorraine MacGuinness and Horseware Kinmar Night, clear in 37.80.
Fifth place belonged to Ashley Moran (AA) and Dowdstown Quality, when fastest of the four-faulters in 31.35, while in sixth was Katy Nolan (A) and I’m a Quality Clover.
