THE second round of the Pony Connaught league took place last Sunday in Westport, with a good following in each class. Taking the win in the 128cm 90cm Connaught Pony League was Thomas Tully and Almar Chubba Chubba, with a clear in 25.15 seconds. Thomas was chased home by Elaine Brisco and The Glimmer Man, with a clear in 25.75. Elaine also took third place with Strawberry Swirl II, when they came home clear in 26.65. Elaine completed the hat-trick, when she partnered Little Ivy to a clear in 28.20. Slotting into fourth place was Sophie Hawkshaw and Ice Ty De Nooe, with a clear in 27.27. Rounding off the top six was John Furey and the six-year-old, Aj Cano, picking up 12 faults in 31.99.
Winner of the 128cm Under 10 was Saoirse Leonard and Kyneton Snipe, when they finished on four faults in 28.22. Sister Joscelyn Leonard and Cefngelli Sherry took second when she was the fastest four-faulter.
138cm 1m
Sarah Egan was back in the ribbons, claiming the win in the 138cm 1m class. Riding Rebel Gealach, she was the fastest of three double clears in 23.36 seconds. Sonny McGovern and Q-Star took the runner-up spot, when they kept the poles standing in 24.76, while in third was Niamh Delaney and Rhos Enterprise as last of the double clears in 26.78. Charlie Geraghty and Ebony Jean put in a very fast time, but unfortunately had one on the ground in 26.70 for fourth. Fastest of the four-faulters in the first round was Ellen Ryan and Farmhill Cailin Dun, followed by Mia Maloney and Milchem Ruby.
148cm 1.10m
Sarah Egan was back in the winner’s enclosure, claiming the win in the 148cm 1.10m class. Riding Katie Girl, she lodged the only double clear in 28.51. Her closest rival was Jack Costello and Zenzi Girl VDK, who had one down in 24.22. Third place was occupied by Kate Adams and Iorras Aithneach Spirit, who was fastest of the four-faulters in the first round in 51.71.
