THE second leg of the AIRC South East Spring Show jumping Series took place at Barnadown last weekend, hosted by Carne Riding Club. Ciaran McGrath was on hand to judge riders competing over the Felim O’Dowd courses. John Carroll was present to capture the day’s action.

The 60cm Newcomer class saw Joan Fogarty and Ruby (Coole Lane) take the first red rosette of the day on their first-ever day out.

The 70cm Graded class saw series regular Claire Sheehan and Gortnalee Bonnie (Ballycanew) claiming first place.

The 70cm Open class was next to take on the course. It was Deirdre Deegan and Dexters Pride (Ballycanew) taking the win, ahead of Tony Behan and Lady Arya (Coole Lane) in second, with Chloe Stedman and Beauty (Kilcarrick) in third.

The 80cm class, the largest of the day, was won by Patrick Byrne and Macimor R (Barrow Valley), with Casey Cushe and Penure Fred (Coole Lane) in second. Roisin Sutton and Broomhill Bailey (Carne) collected another yellow rosette in the series.

Top spot

The course proved to be no less of a challenge for the 80cm Open, with Emma O’Hangan and Derryeighter Smokey (Coole Lane) taking the top spot on the podium, followed by Kelsea Moris and Dorito (Carne) in second and Robyn O’Reilly and Presley (Carrickmines) rounding off the top three in the class.

The 90cm class produced the tightest turns and the fastest round of the day, with John Kearney and Hot Jameson (Warrington) taking the win. Ciara Shannon and Oddsocks (Coole Lane) finished second, with Natasha Mackey O’Donohue and Tomgarrow Gales (Carne) in third.

In the 90cm Open, Robyn O’Reilly and Presley (Carrickmines) took first place, just ahead of Leonard Ramsbottom and Layla (Coole Lane), who finished second.

The Young Horse class was won by Ciara Kinsella and Dancer (Carne), with Andrea Cooper and Diamond Pondi Girl (Russelltown) in second.

It was back to tight turns and fast rounds in the 1m class. Leonard Ramsbottom and Lightning Spirit (Coole Lane) walked away with the win, ahead of Christina Kavanagh and Russeltown Nightshade (Carne) in second and Joan Sinnott and The Ozzie Way (Ballycanew) taking third place.

In the final class of the day, the 1m Open, Ciara Kinsella and Doug (Carne) claimed victory.

The next leg of the AIRC South East Spring Series will take place on March 29th, hosted by Barrow Valley Riding Club in Boley Farm.
