THE six/seven-year-old class at the Cavan September Indoor Championships was first introduced back in 1993 and has been a staple in the Irish show jumping calendar ever since. The 2026 edition, sponsored by the Elliot Group with a prize fund of €7,000, showcased the very high standard of the production of young horses in Ireland.

Eleven combinations from the 39 starters made it into an exciting third round against the clock and it was Jack Brennan from Kilkenny who took the spoils. Partnering the six-year-old MHS Superstition, a grey gelding owned by Michael and Sinead Brennan, Brennan took the win with the fastest of six triple clears in 34.97.

Brennan spoke to The Irish Field after his success: “I’m delighted with the win, it caps off a great year for a horse who gives everything. He is a home-bred by Vigo D’Arsouilles and he is a very careful horse, who tries a lot. We have been taking him slowly and he has been very consistent - he jumped clear in both qualifiers at the Dublin Horse Show and was very unlucky to have a green moment in the final, where I pulled him away from a fence, but he didn’t knock a fence all week.

Proven

“He comes from a proven family, where his brother MHS Mix De Blue won the four-year-old final at the RDS in 2024 with Harry Wood. He will have a well-earned break now for the winter and we will campaign him again next year in the seven-year-old classes.”

Cathal Daniels gave it his all on the leading seven-year-old in the class, Seapatrick Emerald. The Sandra Duffy/Ireland Horse Sport and Leisure-owned Emerald Van’t Ruytershof grey mare coming home in 35.76. Just edged into third place and completing the podium was Alex Finney on the Bronte Stables-owned six-year-old Hermione Hero, the Comme Il Faut mare jumping triple clear in 36.26.

Robyn Moran continued her great show, the Munster woman teaming up this time with Brian O’Malley’s seven-year-old gelding Clever Quay to take fourth place in 36.35. Emma O’Dwyer was next in the line-up riding her own six-year-old DSH Good Luck, the Lucky Luck bay mare crossing the finishing line in 37.29. Leading Connaught young rider Katie Nallon produced a lovely triple clear with her mother Sandra Nallon’s Primero-Carlos to take sixth in 39.22.
