LEADING the victory lap in the Boomerang 148cm Six/ Seven-Year-Old Starfinder class at Millstreet’s Pony and Young Rider Grand Prix Show was Ellie Rogan on the six-year-old Castlelawn Moonshine, with a foot-perfect round in 30.42. Tim Hawkins and the six-year-old, Heart and Soul, was just over a second slower in 31.44 for second, while in third was Willow O’Connor and Barnaboy Oonagh (6yo), clear in 31.59.

The Under-10 128cm 90cm class saw 38 go to post and, from those, 16 delivered double clears. Taking the win was Harry Flynn on Castlefield Messi, who jumped double clear in a time of 28.70. Harry Kelly and Ashwey El Britaniko took the runner-up spot, when they stopped the clock in 28.83, while Tom Mason and Shining Star took third in 34.21.

Ted Fagan emerged as the winner in the 148cm 1.20m PRL Pathway Series class, when he partnered Kilkillahara Beauty to a clear in 25.27. Fellow Leinster rider, Robbie Sheehan, took second with Knockroe Clover Mor, with a clear in 27.06, while in third was Max Galway and Orchid’s Coryan, clear in 27.71.

Victory lap

Leading the victory lap in the 128cm 1.05m class was Connaught rider Lillie Cash, when she partnered the seven-year-old JSB Hidden Secret to a double clear in 32.84. Almost two seconds behind and filling the runner-up space was Amelia Strafford and Tierna, clear in 34.62, ahead of Gwendolyn Bradford and Hes A Touch Of Magic, clear in 34.89.

The 138cm 1.15m class saw joint winners, with Edward Walsh Jnr (Burnal Skipper) and Lucia Keane (Knud Van Orchid’s) both coming home with nothing to add in 32.92. Ben O’Connor and Tesla Van Het Klavertje took third, with all the poles remaining in place in 35.12.

Winner of the 148cm 1.30m division was Charlie Flynn and HK Zena, when fastest of the five double clears in 35.01. Robbie Sheehan battled hard, but his time of 35.62 aboard Daytona (Grenzhoehes O.C.) put him in second place on this occasion. Sam Widger and Little Smithe took third, clocking 35.81.

Junior rider, Emily Hall claimed victory in the COH/ Juniors division when she put in a foot-perfect round with Lockside Celtic Queen in a time of 31.11. Her closest rival was Dylan Barrett and China Man in second, with a clear in 32.85, ahead of Edward Walsh and Diamante, clear in 33.63 for third.

The €2,500 128cm 1.00m-1.05m Grand Prix saw a victory for Isla McKinty and Killorglin Boy, when they were the fastest of 10 double clears in 30.78. A close second was Jack Derwin and Deelside Dolly, who came home in 31.47, ahead of Ben Hawkins and Bronheulog Rose Gold in 32.15 for third.

Jack Dore claimed victory in the €2,500 138cm 1.10m-1.15m Grand Prix, when he partnered Farone Des Islots to a clear in 26.63. He was chased home by Rachel Sheehan and Cuffesgrange In It To Win It, who came home with nothing to add in 27.09. Taking third was DJ Kent and Eastwood De Circee, clear in 28.04.

Charlie Flynn took another win, this time in the €5,000 148cm 1.20m-1.25m Grand Prix. Riding HK Zena, he lodged the winning round of clear in 39.05. Following closely behind was Sam Widger and Little Smithe, but although he put a gallant attempt, a clear in 40.35 saw him take the runner-up spot. Saoirse O’Neill and Corona Boy took third, when they came home clear in 40.67.
