LEADING the victory lap in the Castlefield Breeding Farm 148cm 1.25m Championship at the SJI Pony Championships at Mullingar Equestrian Centre was Munster’s Sam Widger and the seven-year-old Poynstown Hero, when fastest of the eight double clears in 25.24. Less than two seconds behind was Robbie Sheehan and Daytona (Grenzhoehes OC) in 27.05. Charlie Flynn and HK Zena took third with a clear in 28.28.

Winner of the Cavan Equestrian 148cm 90cm Championship was Perrie Barkley and Super Martin Boy, when they put in a blistering round of clear in 19.48. The class went down to the wire as Lily Cahill and Hill Of Pearls took the runner-up spot, clear in 20.21, ahead of Yelena O’Keefe and the five-year-old Glengarra De Royal, clear in 21.19.

Victory in the David Keeling 148cm 1 metre Championship went to Nina Smith and Carra Cave Boy, when they kept all the poles in place in 19.75. She was chased home by Holly Treacy and Brock Blizzard, in 20.63, while in third was Rebecca Coulter and Polaness V, clear in 20.89.

Colm Widger came out on top in the Karlswood 1.15m COH class, taking the win with Jerenice D Ysenbeeck Z, with a clear in 22.69. Taking a very close second was Lucy McCarthy and Maggiemae C, clear in 22.85, while in third was Willow Gavin and Easy Top De Courcel, clear in 24.16.
