ON Sunday, €2,000 was up for grabs at Mullingar Equestrian in each of the Summer Series Finals and, as a result, each decider went down to the wire.

First to contest their final were the qualified combinations in the 90cm division. Taking this title was amateur rider Edwina O’Connor (A) and Ashwood Reggie, when they delivered the winning round of clear in 37.43. O’Connor was chased home by Laura Carrick (A) and My Foxy Lass, when they stopped the clock with nothing to add in a time of 37.67. Third place belonged to Michael Morgan, who was riding his own six-year-old Corporal Amiro and they also answered all the questions, albeit in a slower time of 38.63.

Laura Carrick (A) accounted for fourth place with a clear aboard her own eight-year-old Amura R in 38.82. A clear from amateur rider Shauna Furlong (A) aboard Louise Hegarty’s Lhe Bella Mon Ami in 39.03 saw them take fifth place. Completing the top six was amateur rider Mary O’Meara (A) on Kilconnell Pluto (41.43).

1m final

Amateur riders dominated this final, taking five of the top six places. Taking this crown was Kilkenny’s Gemma Drennan (A) when she partnered her own Cool Finesse to a clear in 30.99. Lisa Doyle (AA) and her home-bred Ballinaguilkey Dignified took the runner-up place with a clear in 32.36. Just over a second behind was Roisin Kavanagh (A) and Boleybawn Tornado, clear in 33.41. A clear from Jessie O’Flynn (A) and Mms Loreal in 35.92 saw them take fourth place. Frederick Wilson (A) opted for the longer routes with Innealls Flight and it paid off as he came home with nothing to add in 37.25 for fifth place. Sportsmember Alison Byrne and Lux Like Clover One proved fastest of the four-faulters in 39.09 for sixth place.

1.10m final

Amateur riders once again dominated the 1.10m final, claiming four of the top six placings. From 29 starters, four double clears were delivered. Taking this final was the prolific amateur winner, Marie Hartley (AA) and Nikita Van Het Heidenhof, clear in 34.06. Another familiar face in the winner’s enclosure, Lorraine Younge (AA) and Adieu Flight took the runner-up place with a clear in 37.65. Little separated the next placing as Sarah Connolly (AA) and Mp Cosmina galloped home in 37.94 for eventual fourth place. A clear from junior rider, Ciara Ryan and the seven-year-old Linali Davincis Destiny in 42.54 saw her take fourth. Junior rider, Mark Neilan and Lbc Russi B, put in a very fast time of 32.86, but with one on the ground, they had to settle for fifth place. Jody Townend (AA) also had one on the floor with Jt Calover Junior, but at a slower time of 32.94 for sixth place.

1.20m final

A total of 26 combinations contested the 1.20m section and just three double clears were delivered in the eight-way jump-off. Taking this win was Kilkenny’s Tholm Keane when he partnered his wife Hilda’s seven-year-old, The Rookie, to a clear in 43.88.

Christopher Corcoran came closest to catching Keane with Debbie Lawerence’s eight-year-old, SVS Limited Edition, clear in 47.41. Sarah Connolly was back in the line-up, this time taking third with Mp Cosmina, when she delivered the last clear of the class in 51.07.

Junior rider Kayla Jebb and the seven-year-old, Chaculo Ps, finished as the fastest of the four-faulters in 46.44 for fourth place. Catherine Spence and Flyhigh Mable also had one on the ground in 50.06 for fifth place. Completing the top six was Ciara Nolan and HHS India, who finished on four faults in 52.31.
