MULLINGAR Equestrian Centre was a hive of activity last week, as it hosted the very popular SJI Pony Championships. On Sunday, the Championships took centre stage and, following some nail-biting competitions, the champions were confirmed. The 128cm Under 10 champion was Harry Kelly on 293 points, while Harvey Oscar Foley and The Silver Legend were crowned the 128cm champion on 298 points. Foley also took the 138cm title with Mayfly Green Peter, while Ava O’Neill and Castlefield Moon took the 148cm title on 275 points.

First up was the William and Deirdre Murphy 128cm 1.05m Championship, with 49 going to post. Claiming the first title was Lily Lennon and Woodside Jerry-Lee, when they delivered a clear in 50.64. Little stood between the next spot, as Gracie Kelly and Belgrove Beauty came home clear in 51 seconds. Mairead Kate Barry and Loggy Star Lubelie took third, when clear in 54.51.

A large crowd gathered for the Vulcan Consulting 128cm U10 85cm Championship that boasted a prize fund of €1,000 and taking this title and the reserve was Harry Kelly. The Ulster rider delivered his best result with Ashwey El Britainiko, with a clear in 49.55. He returned to take second with Paris, stopping the clock in 50.21. Peter Connolly took third with Saltre Imperial Commander, when they kept everything standing in 50.55.

Harry Kelly took his first title of the day in the Diarmuid Kelly Livestock Ltd 128cm 1m Championship. Riding Tower View Lady, he lodged a double clear in 21.55. The runner-up spot belonged to Dylan Cregan and Pineview Bobby Boy, clear in 23.68, while in third was Oliver Murphy and Foxhall Ranson, clear in 24.97.

Winner of the Carraghy Stables 128cm 80cm Championship was Poppy Coulter and Julie Go Leor with a clear in 30.97. Jack O’Connell and Nom BBS Boley Star took the runner-up spot with a clear 31.80, with Tim Morton and Thistledown Fedora in third, clear in 32.28.

Winner of the Epic Management 128cm 70cm Championship was Amira Greeves and Super SAM Storm with a clear in 23.12 seconds. Mark Brown and Longwood Grandpas Diamond took the runner-up spot with a clear in 25.55, while in third were Emma Power and Cratloe Tommy, clear in 25.71.

Winner of the BPC Civil Engineering Ltd 60cm newcomers’ championship was Mila Van Cauwenberge when she delivered a clear with Rashers and Sausages in 23.64. Vincent Byrne Jnr took the runner-up spot with Tammy’s Boy, clear in 25.13, while in third was Lily Crawford and Dalways Counting Daisies, clear in 26.13.

138cm classes

Taking the title in the Tailored Equestrian 138cm 1m Championship was Ruby Kelly and Little Red Baron, with a clear in 20.85. She was chased home by Amber Tobin and Harry Finn, clear in 21.37, while in third was Ashley Cannon and Lady Gillian, clear in 21.72.

The HK Show jumping 138cm 1.10m Championship title stayed locally, as RDS champion Jack Derwin and Candy Surprise took the win, when all the poles stayed in place in 22.86. Joe Widger and Poynstown Penny took the runner-up spot when they kept everything standing in 24.34. It was extremely close, as Patrick Leddy and Glenara Tiger Roll came home with nothing to add in 24.35.

A total of 51 took on the Carleton Stables 138cm 1.15m Championship and nine double clears were delivered. This title went to Leinster, as Harvey Oscar Foley came home in a blistering time of 26.08 with Mayfly Green Peter. Foley was chased home by Lucia Keane and Knud Van Orchid’s, who clocked 26.30. Daniel McKeon-Devaney took third, stopping the clock in 26.61.

The Vambeck Bloodstock 138cm 80cm Championship, which took place on the grass, saw a win for Alexandra Vambeck and Flight Of Earls Wagtail, with a clear in 26.12. It was a good day for the Vambeck family, as Zoe took the runner-up spot with Kinnegads Flicka, clear in 27.38. Lucy Fitzgerald and Curious filled third, when clear in 29.67.

Alexandra Vambeck added to the family haul, as she went on to claim the 138cm 90cm Championship and third place. Riding Flight Of Earls Wagtail, she lodged the winning time of clear in 20.07. She was fractions behind with Highthyme Vanity Fair, in 20.80 for third. Separating her placings was Edward Walsh Jnr and Flyover Arish in second, in a time of 20.53.
