IT was a busy weekend for Cavan Equestrian as it played host to its Amateur Summer Show. On Saturday, Maeve Cotter (AA) took the win in the Welcome Stakes with Cloonturk Picasso when clear in 66.26.
Just over two seconds behind was Paul Tarpey (AA) and Lowhill Hot Shot, when they kept the poles in place in 68.80. Third place belonged to Colm Fitzpatrick (AA) and Ces Simba Girl.
Winner of the Horse First Power and Speed (A Section) was Robyn Hartley and Rh Live For Now, when clear in 32.60. She was chased home by Emma Farrell and Kyani-Linn, clear in 33.41, while in third was Jack Sheedy and Dsh Good Feeling, in 33.51.
The AA section saw a win for Colm Fitzpatrick and the ever-reliable Maretto Flight, with a clear in 29.51. Taking the runner-up spot was Nicole Lynch and My Velvet Lady, clear in 29.98. Taking third was Stephanie Forde and Merlins Vixen, clear in 31.86.
Mini Grand Prix Farmers Journal A Qualifier
Winner of the A section is Caroline Dametto and Ballyheering Beau Gosse when they delivered a double clear in 32.59. Just two other clears were delivered and the fastest of those came courtesy of Margaret Fullerton in 38.79. The last of the clears came from Zoe Emma Donohoe and Ballyheerin Double victory, clear in 40.25. Leading the victory lap in the AA section was Gwyen Yemm and Doonini Z with a clear in 30.59.
Little stood between the next placing as Nicole Lynch and My Velvet Lady came home in 30.63. Dean Cotton and Imperial Darco Diamond, also kept all the poles in 31.26 for third.
On Sunday, it was Sophia Harding that claimed victory in the A section of the Murdock Saddlery Power and Speed. Riding Quintano Optimus she kept all the poles in their cups in 27.43.
Her closest rival was Breda Perrin and Lks Bianca, when she came home clear in 29.65, ahead of Robyn Hartley and Rh Live For Now, clear in 29.71. In the AA section, Colm Fitzpatrick took first and second place.
He delivered his best result with Maretto Flight, coming home with nothing to add in 26.63. He was fractions behind with his second mount, Bluestone Diamond Fly, in 29.26. Taking third place was Niall Hughes and Ces Seamanchip in 28.22.
TRM Grand Prix
The TRM Grand Prix (A) Section saw 18 go to post and taking this victory was Sarah Burns and Georgies Star when they delivered the fastest of four double clears in the 11-way jump-off, clocking 42.06.
Vanessa Sweeney put in a gallant attempt with Woodbank Clover, coming home in 42.27. Third place went to Rachel Mahon and Stralongford Christine, who stopped the clock in 43.12.
Last of the double clears was Jack Sheedy and DSH Good Feeling, in 43.54. Liz Keegan Comerford and Edoxtown Cash Cruise put in a very fast round, clocking 40.22, but it came with a price as one dropped to the ground and then had to settle for fifth. Rounding off the top six was Corrie Auchterlonie and Our Father, four faults in 41.34.
Gwyn Yemm returned to the line-up as she claimed victory in the AA section with Doonini Z with a clear in 37.36. This combination has qualified for Dublin Horse Show, and they have demonstrated that they are ready for the challenge of Simmonscourt.
Noel Elliott and Corgary Goodluck, also kept the poles in place, albeit in 39.11 for second. Only a split second divided the next placing, as Amanda-Jayne Comyn and Eiring Gatsby galloped home clear in 39.32. Noel Elliott put in another good performance with Fleurich, delivering a clear in 39.92 for eventual fourth.
Fifth place belonged to Barbara Clarke and Lupins Lux Z, when clear in 46.05. Completing the top six was Maeve Cotter and Cloonturk Picasso, clear in 46.10.
