GOOD crowds turned out for the Tailored Equestrian Leinster Pony Championships last Sunday week, with the action continuing late into the evening as competitors battled it out for championship honours.

In the Plusvital arena, younger competitors got their opportunity to compete for a title, as 10 contested the 128cm 50cm class.

Taking the win was Katie Murphy Kehoe with Midnight Magic, with a clear in 42.77. Second place was occupied by Peter Butler Baxter and Lambay Satisfaction with a clear in 45.72, followed by Ben Carroll and Molly Polly with a clear in 48.05.

The winner of the 128cm 60cm class was Jack Raggett and Harry’s Lady, clear in 44.08. Jack was chased home by Ella McManus and Hollycreek Sir Selby, clear in 44.21, ahead of Vincent Byrne and Tammy’s Boy, clear in 43.69.

Joint winners of the Leinster Newcomers 70cm class were Jack O’Connell on Annagh Connie and Mia Wall on Silverspring Harry, who both stopped the clock in 28.44. Faye Doran and Bilbo Baggans took third, when they kept all the poles in place in 30.02.

Winner of the 128cm 70cm was Emily O’Brien and the six-year-old Ece Odessa, clear in 28.04, while in second was Jack O’Connell and Annagh Connie, clear in 31.05. A clear from Kate Sinnott and Hilin Cisco in 31.41 saw them take third.

Peter Junior Connolly and Highmead Song and Dance took the win in the 128cm 80cm with a clear in a blistering time of 29.89. Saoirse Byrne and Paulank Chaffinch took the runner-up spot, clear in 32.29, while in third was Sophie Kinsella and Coppenagh Haribo, clear in 32.64.

Peter Junior Connolly returned to the line-up to claim first and second in the 128cm 85cm class. He delivered his fastest clear with Highmead Song and Dance in 28.58 and, with Dona X, he was fractions behind in 28.68. Robyn Murphy and Lolly Do claimed third place, when clear in 30.75.

In the 128cm 90cm, Peter Junior Connolly repeated the results from the previous class, but this time he clocked 33.86 with Highmead Song and Dance and 33.93 with Dona X. Sophie Kinsella tried hard to catch him with Tiago, but a clear in 34.96 proved only good enough for third.

Late to go in the draw, Julia Sheehan and Heartbreaker Charlie, took the win in the 128cm 1m section, with a clear in 32 seconds. Harvey Oscar Foley and Bossinova put in a very good effort, delivering a clear in 34.40 for second. Peter Junior Connolly was back in the line-up, taking third with Saltre Imperial Commander in 34.86.

It was a good day for the Vambeck family, as Zoe and Kinnegads Flicka took the win in the 138cm 80cm with a clear in 32.78, ahead of her sister Alexandra Vambeck and Flights of Earls Wagtail, clear in 34.17. Kate Sinnott and Springrove Miss Melody, took third, with a clear in 37.87.

Alexandra Vembeck went one better in the 138cm 90cm, as she took the win with Flight of Earls Wagtail, with a clear in 32.79, while in second was Anna Sarsfield and Glenhead Summer, clear in 33.05. Kate Sinnott also took her place on the podium in this class, securing third place with Springrove Miss Melody when clear in 36.58.

Childeric Saddles Arena

In the Childeric Saddles Arena, competitors in the 148cm 90cm were first to contest their title. Taking the win was Emma Tobin and Sir Bule Jake, with a clear in 29.75. She was chased home by Louisa Daisy Dalton and Monarch of the Glen, clear in 30.64, while in third was Maria Maye and Clooncan Rose, clear in 31.36.

Taking the win in the 148cm 1m was Nina Smith and Carra Cave Boy with a clear in 26.43, while in second was Aoife Lawton and Woodside Lad, clear in 27.40. Third place belonged to Alanna Dardis and Toddy’s Lass, clear in 27.75.

Victory in the 138cm 1m went to Ruby Kelly and Little Red Barron, when she delivered a foot-perfect round in 26.78. A clear from Milly Draper and Glenmore Acrobatique, in 27.12 saw her take second, while in third was Orla Cleary and True Light Bindi, clear in 29.60.

Harvey Oscar Foley also featured in this arena, taking the win in the 138cm 1.10m with Mayfly Green Peter, with a clear in 29.17. He was chased home by Rachel Sheehan and Cuffesgrange In it To Win it, clear in 30.03. Lucy Kent had to settle for third with a clear in 30.50 aboard Little Pretender.

Harvey Oscar Foley added to his haul, as he took the win in the 148cm 1.10m. Riding Bearna Rua Jenny, he lodged a clear in 30.35. Taking the runner-up place on the podium was Charlotte Harten and Frenchpark Florence, clear in 30.73, while in third was Alexandria McMahon and Lurgan Sallyanne, clear in 32.34.

Alexandria McMahon upped the ante in the 148cm 1.20m, as she claimed victory with Lurgan Sallyanne, when they were fastest of eight double clears in 27.90 seconds. Saoirse O’Neill was fractions behind in 29.71 for second, while in third was Rachel Sheehan and Ballynoe Lurgan Diamond, clear in 30.34.

Winner of the Children on Horses/Junior 1.15m class was junior rider, Lucy McCarthy and Maggiemae, when they galloped home with nothing to add in 30.20.

Junior rider Alexandra Butler was less than a second behind with Kingston King in 31 seconds, while in third was Children on Horses rider Rebecca Lawlor and REC Diamante Lad, clear in 31.73.
