IT was another busy weekend for Cavan Equestrian, as they hosted their three-day Horse Championships with large entries in all of the classes.
A familiar face in the winner’s enclosure in Cavan, John Floody returned to take the win in the Table A 1.30m speed class on Saturday.
Riding Brian Kiernan’s HTS Redrock, the Co Meath rider was fastest of the 32 clears in a time of 58.52. Sven Hadley, a frequent winner in Cavan, finished second with John Deegan’s Machnus Lux in 59.50. Cian Goggins and Jinarite were fractions behind in 59.72, ahead of Dermott Lennon and the seven-year-old Offshore Vd Watermelon, in a time of 61.04. Slotting into fifth place was Jodie Creighton and Smalltown Boy IV, clear in 61.48 for fifth.
Rounding off the top six was Dermott Lennon again, as he partnered another seven-year-old, Loughview Tara Lou, to a clear round in 62.33.
The Drumhowan Stud 1.35m Table A speed class saw a win for Sven Hadley, when he delivered a clear with Machnus Lux in 65.10. Hadley was chased home by John Mulligan and Kathleens Candy Clover, who also kept the poles in place in 65.27.
Junior Connaught rider, Lily P Slattery, didn’t hold back with Captain Candy Man, and a clear in 66.28 saw them take third. A clear from Louis Mellier and Carrick Quidams Flake in 67.60 saw them take fourth, ahead of Hadley and Carthe 7, when they kept all the poles intact in 71.09 for fifth place. Pataire Crawford accounted for sixth with her own Jackstar, when clear in 71.62.
The 1m Amateur class attracted a huge entry, with 134 battling it out. Leading this victory lap was Ava Vaughan (A) and the seven-year-old Carrigshawn Condi, with a double clear in 31.81. Little stood between the next placing as Wendy Anderson (AA) on KEC Lanz jumped clear in 31.90.
Gallant attempt
Aoife Henry (A) put in a gallant attempt with First Spender Ts and crossed the line clear in 32.14 for third place. Fourth place belonged to Lorraine Boggs and Bita Guinness, when they came home clear in 33.13, while in fifth was Amy Smyth (AA) and Lisross Irish Knight, clear in 33.36.
Leinster junior rider, Ellie O’Connor and Grove Street Lady slotted into sixth with a clear in 33.94.
There was another massive entry for the 1.10m Amateur (AA) class, with 138 lining out in a bid to take the win. Taking this victory was Nicole Lynch, when she partnered the Carrickanee Sporthorses-owned My Velvet Lady to a double clear in 34.33. It was a good day for the Lynch family, as Billie Jean Lynch took the runner-up spot with Clover Echo with a clear in 38.03.
Lorraine Boggs and Bita Guinness were back in the line-up, this time taking third when clear in 39.36. Young rider Sarah Fleming and Hes a Steel took fourth when they kept all the poles in place in 40.27, while in fifth place was Lauren Carville and Castlelodge Osmium Rose, clear in 40.81.
A clear from Danni Jennings and Super Star in 41.19 saw them take sixth.
