ALONGSIDE a packed schedule of international and national horse classes, the Mullingar CSI2* Show also hosted a prestigious programme of pony competitions, attracting many of the country’s leading young riders.

On Saturday, Jack Dore took the win in the €1,000 138cm 1.10m Masters Final, when he galloped home in 34.51 aboard Hastag Alis. Dore was chased home by Ruby Kelly and Little Red Barron, who kept all the poles in place in 35.47. Ruby took another share of the prize fund, when she partnered the six-year-old, RWS It’s the Game Changer to a clear in 37.50 for third. A clear from Blathnaid Murphy and Orchid’s Serata in 38.74, proved good enough for eventual fourth, while in fifth was Joe Widger and Poynstown Penny, in 39.50. Completing the top six was Taylor-Grace Nolan Gee and Matilda II in 40.17.

Winner of the 148cm 1.15m Masters Final was Max Galway and Orchid’s Coryan, with a clear in 36.27. Little divided the next place as James Cleary and the six-year-old Abbi Bw, delivered a clear in 37.14. Third place belonged to Rachel Sheehan and Ballynoe Lurgan Diamond, clear in 37.75, ahead of Zara Sharkey and Jubel De Nev, clear in 38.17. Resident rider, Ted Fagan took fifth with Little Miss Susie, clear in 39.95, while in sixth was Anna Moloney and Castlehill Titan, clear in 44.68.

Under 10s

On Sunday, 24 combinations lined out in a bid to claim the €750 in the 128cm U10 Masters Final. Leading this victory lap was Ulster rider, Rory McBride and Creevelea Fire Fox, with a double clear in 32.97. Fellow Ulster rider, Eliza Burke and Where It Began took the runner-up spot when they put in a clear round, albeit in a slower time of 33.45. Hugo Doran and Hopgarden took third, with a clear in 34.88, while in fourth was Ulster rider, Georgia Bingham and Sweet Lily, clear in 36.12. Jack O’Connell kept all the poles in place with Nom BBS Star in 36.62, while in sixth was Poppy Coulter and Shanvally Lily, clear in 38 seconds.

Popular win

Ted Fagan was a popular winner in the final pony classes on Bank Holiday Monday, as he led the victory lap in the 148cm 1.25m Masters Final. The resident rider took the lion’s share of the €2,500 prize fund and the Maybell Molly Trophy. Riding Ballyfore Rosie, he lodged the only double clear of the class in 42.01. Lucia Keane and Rdjw Merclov put in a fast round of 40.09, but she paid the price as she had one on the ground and had to settle for second. Jack Dore and K-Little Hero took third, when they finished on four faults, in a slower time of 41.73. Fourth place belonged to Lucy McCarthy and Gorm, when they finished on 12 faults in 38.61, ahead of Juliana Nelson and Tully Jim, who was fastest of the four-faulters in the first round in a time of 69.72. Completing the top six was Sam Widger and BP Bon Jovi, also on four faults in the first round in 70.98.

The 128cm 1m Masters Final saw 25 qualified combinations battle it out for the €1,000 on offer. Taking the win when fastest of the four double clears was Julia Sheehan and Heartbreaker Charlie in 33.42. Julia also took sixth place with Lackaghmore Cat, when they had one down, in 37.90. Less than a second behind the winner was Lily Lennon and Woodside Jerry-Lee, with a clear in 34.09. Jack Derwin followed closely behind with Deelside Dolly, clear in 34.47 for third, while in fourth was Taylor O’Neill and Bronheulog Limited Edition, clear in 39.36. Harvey Oscar Foley gave it his best shot aboard Bossinova, but four faults in 36.22 proved only good enough for fifth.
