SATURDAY’S four-year-old final at the Cavan Winter Festival was judged by Vincent Byrne, Jake Hunter and Francis Connors, who chose their favourite from the 30 finalists that lined out over the 1.10m track.

Ivor Broderick’s Dutch-bred mare KMS Rozemarijn, by Carrera Vdl out of Klavertje by Baltic Vdl, came out on top when guided to the win on a massive score of 200.33, almost eight points higher than her closest rival, by Olive Clarke from Four Seasons Stables.

Speaking about the mare, Clarke told The Irish Field: “I’ve had her since the start of the year just to get her going to a couple of shows, so we did that and then she went back home for a break.

“She hasn’t done a whole lot. I did the four-year-olds at the Mullingar international and she won that.

“She just missed out on qualifying for the RDS in Barnadown by one place, which was disappointing, but it may have been a blessing in disguise because she got to go home and have a break, so look there was no harm done.

“Everyone thinks an awful lot of her. She has a great brain, she is very straightforward".

"She really wants to do the job, all you have to do is steer her around really. She’s blood and she is super light off the floor. She thinks like a jumper and really wants to leave the poles up. She enjoys her job, which makes it easy. She likes to jump and that makes my job pretty easy as a rider.

“She really put on a display on Saturday. She has everything you would look for; she has tons of canter, she has lots of quality, she leaves the floor very nice and her attitude is 100% which is a big help.”

Ballypatrick’s Leah Stack and the Gbbs Ltd’s stallion Versace Di Costa M (Piece Of Cake x Vannen) took the runner-up spot with a score of 192.96.

Third place went to Taylor Cummins riding Eddie Moloney’s Belgian-bred gelding Eros Z (Emerald Van’T Ruytershof x Marlon) with 188.26 points.

Cathal Daniels and Hans Jurgen Kuehnle’s home-bred gelding Tullibards Benny’s Night Star (Tullibards Benny’s Legacy x Carambole) were fourth on 180.33.

Boleybawn Ariel (Aganix Du Seigneur x Ard VDL Douglas), bred by Boleybawn Horses Ltd, owned by William Hickey and ridden by his brother Patrick, took fifth with a score of 178.3.

Kian Dore rode Garranemore Equestrian’s stallion Lenn 111 (El Barone 111 Z x President) into sixth, having scored 177.96.

In Cavan, they posted a double clear in the 1.20m two-phase, with a second round time of 34.21 to secure victory in the 36 combination-strong final, which produced just 10 double clears.

Junior Katie Nallon finished as runner-up aboard Sandra Nallon’s stallion Bouncers Hero (Ganesh Hero Z x Diamond Roller) breaking the finish beam in 35.66.

Third went to Daren Hopkins riding Aloga Stables’ gelding Chappido (Chapper x Lord Fauntleroy) in 36.24, while Eoghan Fahy and Castlefield Breeding Farm’s mare Castlefield Contiki (Emerald Van ‘t Ruytershof x Sam R) took fourth in 36.93.
