SATURDAY’S 1.35m two-phase class at Cavan’s February horse show attracted quite a small start list of just seven contenders. The class was won by junior rider Ella Kenny aboard Ellex Stables’ gelding Calle Cool. By Orestus out of Trixi, by Quantum, he was bred by Sigrid Jackel and has been partnered by Kenny since 2024.

The runner-up spot went to Darragh Ryan riding his own Belgian-bred gelding As You Want It Z, while third was Sean Brennan’s home-bred Lisgobbin Iris (Freeman Vdl x Cavalier Royale) with Bill Maguire in the saddle.

The 1.30m two-phase earlier that day saw a start list of 34 combinations lined out. Of these, some 31 managed to post a clear round over the first phase.

Twenty-seven of the 31 kept a clean sheet through the second phase, Kate Derwin and Susan Fitzpatrick’s French-bred stallion Hector De Kezeg (Diamant De Semilly x Vas Y Donc Longane) proved best of these, stopping the clock at 33.21 for the win.

Second place went to Emily Moloney riding Keonan Stables’ mare Clovalent (Valent x Cruising), bred by Mary McCann, in 35.64.

Stephen Wentzel rode the Dutch-bred mare Katy Perry Therma Wm (Vigo D’Arsouilles x Cornet Obolensky), owned by LG Equine Limited, into third in 36.98.

Kate Derwin claimed another good placing when she and Marion Hughes’ home-bred eight-year-old HHS Madonna (Luidam x Ready Boy Des Forets) were fourth in 37.29.

Jane Cassidy guided Virginia Desmond’s Consul Lux (Lux Z x First Consul) into fifth in 37.45, while Patrick Byrne and his own home-bred gelding BGS Stormbreaker (BGS Ocean View x Lux) was sixth in 37.69.
