KIAN Dore was completing a National Grand Prix double when winning the Dennigan and Sons-sponsored €5,000 1.40m class on Saturday at Tattersalls July Show. This time, he took the honours aboard Monterey Bay.

The Munster young rider led the charge when he delivered a double clear round in 39.29 seconds.

This combination also won the National Grand Prix in Cavan this June and, before this, the 1.35/1.40m Young Rider Dublin Horse Show qualifier in their first show together.

Dore is now up to second on the leaderboard with 34 points, just behind leader Francis Connors on 37.

The 10-year-old gelding Monterey Bay is owned by Jillian Lennon, bred by Felicitas Erfurt and is by Monte Bellini out of the Calypso 27 mare, Carisma 27.

From a field of 64, 18 found the key to the Tom Holden-designed course and, of those, seven delivered double clears.

Fellow Munster young rider, Daisy McNamara and Caspetito Z took the runner-up spot when they put in a gallant attempt and came home in 40.68.

Owned by Martha McNamara, this 13-year-old mare is by Cassio Vh Sonnishof out of the Hors La Loi II-sired Zaire.

This combination had featured in the line-up of 1.40m Grand Prix on previous occasions, taking third in the round at Tipperary.

Francis Derwin had his eye on the win, as he took it on with Parvati Aeg, but their time of 41.37 proved only good enough for third.

Winners of the Maryville Plusvital Premier Grand Prix, Darragh Ryan and Lady Blue Du Pont Letot were back in the line-up, this time taking fourth when they stopped the clock in 42.81.

Ryan also took seventh when he was last of the double clears with As You Want Z, in 49.98.

Tim MacDonagh was back in the money when he partnered Hollypark Galloway to a clear in 44.49 for fifth. A 16-year-old gelding, he is by Castlelawn Galloway out of the Diamond Lad mare Whitestown Diamond.

Jack Geaney’s clear with Next Star in 46.11 saw him take sixth. Owned by Seamus Madden, the eight-year-old is by Emir R.
