THE 1.40m Premier Performance National Grand Prix at Ballivor Show attracted a disappointing field of just 16 combinations last Sunday for the class that offered €4,000.
Of these, just four produced a first round clear, and none managed to keep all the poles in place throughout both rounds.
Gerard Clarke and his own Dutch-bred gelding L took first place as the only four-faulters in the jump-off. By Action Breaker, the nine-year-old gelding is out of Quidame St Z, by Quidam De Revel.
Second place with eight faults in the second round was Sean Foley riding Dermott Lennon and Gerry Marron’s For Kinmar Hero Z (For Pleasure x Aganix Du Seigneur). Third went to Brendan Murphy and Hugh Fitzpatrick’s home-bred mare Erne Riverrun (Antaeus x Aldatus Z) on 11 faults, while Jonathan Smyth and Mulvin Lights Out (Kroongraaf x Diamond Serpent) took fourth place, despite a fall in the second round.
Sunday afternoon’s 1.35m Mervue league two-phase Grand Prix was won by Sean Foley riding the aforementioned For Kinmar Hero Z. They produced a double clear round over both phases, stopping the clock at 28.12 in the second round to secure the victory.
Oisin Magee and his own Landslide Aw (Limbus x Caretino) were runners-up, double clear in 28.17, while Brendan Murphy and Sean Mulkern’s home-bred ABS Misty (Tyson x Clover Brigade) took third in 28.21.
Millie McNaughton and David Miley’s Ship Shape (Lancelot x Ekstein), bred by James Dunne, won the 1.20m Mervue Equine two-phase when the pair produced a double clear in a time of 29.82. Runner-up was Dermott Lennon riding Victoria Loane’s Dutch-bred gelding Lucardo in 31.48. Andrew Hodgins and the Belgian-bred Canzaro Z took third in 33.58, while Lennon and his other mount, Kinmar Royale (Ganesh Hero Z x Dancing Boy), bred by Gerard Marron, took fourth.
