A BIG crowd gathered on Friday evening for the Karlswood Indoor Derby (1.35m -1.40m), with 41 combinations taking up the challenge. As in previous years, the course proved technically challenging, with only 12 keeping all the poles in place in the first round, and this was reduced to five double clears in the second round.

The win remained at home, as Camryn Clarke and Conto De Reve clocked the fastest time of 28.88 seconds. Owned by Victoria Clarke, the 13-year-old gelding is by Hermes De Reve and out of the Conto-sired dam Odessa IV. This combination has had a great season, so much so that they finished runners-up in the National Grand Prix league.

Brendan Murphy and ABS Misty had to settle for second place, when they stopped the clock in 30.79. This nine-year-old home-bred mare is owned by Sean Mulkern and is by Tyson and out of the Clover Brigade-sired dam, Minnie Clover.

Third place belonged to Jonathan Smyth, who delivered a clear in 32.48 aboard the Noletta Smyth and Roy Craig-owned Mr Kannan Ball.

A young rider turning heads at the moment, Jill Greene took fourth with Hazel, when they stopped the clock in 32.65.

Eventer Cathal Daniels accounted for fifth place with Annaghmore Beach Cruise, when they came home with nothing to add in 34.08.

Camryn Clarke returned to take sixth place with Billy Mombasa, when fastest of the four-faulters in 34.12.
