THE 1.35m Mervue Equine Leinster Summer Tour on Friday in Mullingar offered a prize fund of €2,000 and was won by Robin Carey riding his own Luicruz. By Luidam out of All Cruz by Puissance, the 10-year-old mare was bred by Sean Fahy.
Just 23 combinations from a start list of 59 managed to stay fault-free through both phases and Carey was fastest of these, crossing the finish in a time of 25.66 for the win.
Pamela Shorthall’s Killerisk Can Ya (Can Ya Makan x Mermus R), bred by Maura Counihan, was guided into second place by James Derwin in 25.68.
Sven Hadley and his own stallion Phenomene Bleu Vdm (Diamant De Semilly x Nabab De Reve) finished in third place in 26.94.
Fourth went to Jake Hunter aboard Sandra Duffy’s stallion Like A Star (Big Star x Stakkato) in 27.78, while Catherine Thornton rode Clovalent (Valent x Cruising), bred by Mary McCann, into fifth for owners Keonan Stables Ltd in 29.41.
Goresbridge Horse Sales and Michael Donohoe’s eight-year-old gelding Tankardstown Wilco (Wido x Cruising), bred by Jimmy Dermody, slotted into sixth in 29.72.
1.30m two-phase
Kathleens Candy Clover was ridden to the top spot in Saturday’s Pavilion Cafe 1.30m two-phase by John Mulligan.
Owned by Bernard Reynolds, the eight-year-old gelding is by Sligo Candy Boy out of Green Road Tulip and was bred by Kathleen O’Reilly.
Some 16 of the 45 starters managed a double clear round over Alan Lynch’s track, while five more had just one fence down.
Mulligan was drawn fairly early as 12th to go and produced a second round time of 28.89 to take the lead.
Barry McCormack rode Michelle McElhatton’s home-bred Ludo’s Promise (Hoeks Ludo W x Ramiro B) into the runner-up spot in 28.03.
Junior Zoe Penfold and Harriet Penfold’s home-bred mare Kyra (Hoeks Ludo W x Ramiro B) finished third in 29.16.
Catriona Fitzgerald’s Dominator Z (Dominator 2000 x Courage Il), bred by Jackie Lee and ridden by D Cullen, were fourth in 29.32. Sandra Duffy’s eight-year-old Dutch-bred gelding Magnifique, ridden by Jake Hunter, finished fifth in 29.56. Sandra Devine’s Laranco and Robert Splaine took sixth in 29.83.
