THE 1.35m Grand Prix on Saturday evening at the Cavan Christmas Festival, sponsored by Irish Garage Equipment, attracted a competitive start list of 53 combinations. Fifteen of the 53 managed to produce a double clear round over the two phases, while eight had a single fence down in the second round.
Just over halfway through the class, Lee Carey and Sandra Duffy’s Annaghmore Beach Cruise, a gelding by Beach Ball out of Annaghmore Sonieke (Cruising), lodged the fastest clear over the second phase in 22.62. Carey headed proceedings, a position he would hold on to and see him emerge as the victor.
Young rider Harrison Blair came closest to catching him aboard Rockmount Farms’ L’Esprit Hero Z (Lexicon x For Pleasure) in 22.85.
Third went to Cappog Tomy (Camiro De Haar Z x S Creevagh Ferro Ex Siebe), bred by Tommy Reilly, ridden and owned by Cathal Daniels in 23.19, while Camryn Clarke and his mother Victoria’s Conto De Reve (Hermes De Reve x Conto), bred by Noleen Kieran, were fourth in 23.21.
Aoife McCabe rode her own mare Heritage Enigma (Eldorado Van De Zeshoek x Canturo), bred by Anne-Marie O’Gorman, to fifth place in 24.48. Aidan Killeen and Prime Equipment Ltd’s Inlaws Orinoco (Harlequin Du Carel x Oklund), bred by Michael Byrne, were sixth.
