A MASSIVE 109 horses lined-out for the five-year-old Dublin Horse Show young horse show jumping qualifier and, with just 12 places on offer, competition was tight. Held over three rounds, John Doyle set a 1.20m track; 12 fences in round one, a shortened track of seven in round two and a timed decider in round three.
Thirteen combinations produced a triple clear, with Cathal McMunn and Jonathan Reape’s BP Rioja (Numero Uno x Plot Blue), bred by GBBS Int Ltd and ridden by Senan Reape, taking the win in 34.65.
Another bred in Ballypatrick, the stallion BP Chocster (Chacco Blue x Diamant de Semilly) was guided into second place by Niamh McEvoy in 35.25.
Willie O’Dea’s Gaulross Cornerado (Cornerado VDL x Cruising), bred by Dermot Murphy and ridden by Liam O’Meara, took third.
Fourth went to Kate Lynch riding CCL Candy Balou (Sligo Candy Boy x Warrenstown You 2), bred by James Bergin and owned by Kathryn Lynch.
Mark Cleary and Martello Monsieur (Mylord Carthago x Quidam Junior), owned and bred by Michael Kelleher, were fifth, while Niamh McEvoy earned her second ticket aboard BP Wishes (Aganix du Seigneur x Cruising), bred and owned by GBBS.
Kinmar Flash (Kinmar Hero Z x Kinmar Lady), bred by Gerard Marron, owned by John McEntee and ridden by Katie McEntee, took seventh place.
Tom Foley with Williams Sport horses’ Grand Amour KPCM (Grandorado TN x Emerald van’t Ruytershof), bred by Karen Millar, finished in eighth.
Liam O’Meara earned his second qualifying place when he and his own Templederry T (Vivant Van De Heffinck x Harlequin du Carel), bred by Thomas Ryan, slotted into ninth.
Another rider to get not one, but two places in Dublin was Leah Stack, this time aboard Ali Nilforushan’s DCS Ballypatrick (Pilothago TN x Luidam), bred by Claire Stevenson – they were 10th.
Eleventh was Ben Walsh riding Ronan McLaughlin’s home-bred Carro Miss Don VHP (Don VHP Z x VDL Douglas), while the 12th and final qualifying place went to Gemma Phelan riding Beechfield Stables Ltd’s Moneybroom Early Morn (Pilothago TN x Ekstein), bred by Desmond G Mackey.
