ONE winner not mentioned in last week’s report on the Connolly’s Red Mills/AIRC national dressage championships was that of the turn-out award, which is judged by public votes on photographs.

The Carr & Day & Martin-sponsored prize was won by Corrib’s Claire Cleary with her Irish Draught mare Cluainaonaigh Graces Diamond, a 13-year-old grey by Prescotts Diamond who competed in the RCP2 championship.

Premier Performance sponsored the prizes in a special raffle for the volunteers, who were so willing to fill their many and varied roles at the Mullingar Equestrian Centre. The winners were Cathal McLaughlin (Burren), Elaine Kilbane (Moyglare) and Jane Power (Greenvalley).

Eventing championships

The Killcarrick Club will be well represented at today’s Equipeople/AIRC national eventing championships at Killossery Lodge Stud, as they bid to repeat their win in the team championship at the north Co Dublin venue.

Also hoping to bring up championship doubles are Foxborough’s Harriet Aveling, who again rides her 13-year-old Irish Sport Horse mare The Minx in the RC100, and Enniskerry’s Kate Fortune with her 15-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare Gilanalinde in the RC90.

Eight members are eligible for the Treo Eile training bursary, which will be awarded to the rider of the highest-placed thoroughbred in the championship classes.
