SHEANA Allman Moriarty not only won the class for seven-year-olds and upwards, and capable of carrying up to 83kg, at the RDS working hunter qualifier in Scarteen on Tuesday, but did so by a massive 13-mark margin.
The Kerry Riding Club member is thus set to compete at Dublin for the third year in a row on her 2018 Irish Sport Horse mare On A High (Grey Granite - Killinoran Killy, by Spring Elegance VII), who was traditionally-bred in Co Wicklow by Andrew Waldron. In addition to showing and riding club activities, the combination competes under Show Jumping Ireland rules.
While Allman Moriarty and On A High comprehensively claimed the honours here on 90 marks, four others also bagged their Dublin tickets. The only other horse to record a clear round in this 12-runner class was the Shane Doyle-owned, bred and ridden Doyles Romeo (a 2016 gelding by The Hawk), who lost out to the winner when it came to way of going (17 to 14) and conformation (15 to 15), but especially in the ride (18 to nine) to complete on a score of 77.
Alyssa O’Neill qualified in third on Dermish Coney (73), her seven-year-old ISH mare by Lancelot, who finished eighth of 25 in the EI100 at Glandoran last month. Linzi Sullivan did so in fourth with her father Raymond Dowdall’s home-bred Foxcovert Dancing In The Rain (71), the 2018 ISH grey by Rebel Mountain, who won her lightweight class at Dublin last August and went reserve champion mare. Karl Smyth took the final ticket on board the fourth mare to qualify here, West Roc (69), his seven-year-old ISH chesnut by OBOS Quality 004.
This was the second qualifier for the working hunter classes at Dublin and was run in conjunction with the Young Eventhorse Series (YES!). The third qualifier takes place next Tuesday, June 16th, at Forth Mountain, after which there is a two-week break until the fourth and final round at Rincoola on Tuesday, June 30th.
