BARNADOWN Show jumping in Co Wexford played host to the final round of pony, young rider and Children on Horses’ Dublin Horse Show qualifiers last weekend. On Saturday, pony riders were first to challenge for their place at the five-star show.

In the 148cm decider, Leinster riders dominated the line-up as they claimed the first four placings in the nine-way jump-off. Claiming the first ticket was Nicole Reynolds on the eight-year-old Jimmy’s Moon, when double clear in 41.97 seconds. Robbie Sheehan and Knockroe Clover Mor were less than a second behind with nothing to add in 42.75. Bonnie Loughrey and Infinity was last of the double clears in 42.85 for third place.

Ted Fagan incurred a time fault in the second round with Ballyfore Rosie in 45.13 for eventual fourth place. Katelyn Horgan and the eight-year-old Wrenwood Kingsley also incurred a time fault in the second round in 45.86 for fifth place. Alex Sheehan and Ballynoe Lurgan Diamond proved fastest of the four-faulters in 42.70 in sixth. Finbarr Hanafin and Clashreagh Big Shot finished on five faults in 45.79 for seventh, while in eighth place was Alice Moloney and Cqs X Factor finishing on 12 faults in 39.68.

Largest number

The 148cm six/seven-year-olds attracted the largest number of competitors, with 81 contesting for the six tickets up for grabs. Taking the win was Munster rider Sam Widger and the already-qualified six-year-old Poynstown Hero when they delivered a triple clear in 31.72.

Leinster rider Alanna Keeling and the seven-year-old Nola Hdh took second when they came home clear in a time of 33.67. Fractions behind was Connaught rider Ciara Cash and the seven-year-old Poncho 27, clear in 37.85, while in fourth was Alex Owens and Happy Hooker Sts (6yo) in a time of 38.16.

Jack Dore took fifth place with the seven-year-old Shining Du Champ Du Bois, clear in 40.45. Last of the triple clears and taking sixth place was Leinster’s Calum Duignan and the six-year-old Parkroe Jane in 41.67.

138cm

It was a great day in the office for Ruby Kelly as she took the win and the runner-up place in the 138cm A class, which was decided on just one round as there were 11 clears and 11 slots on offer. Riding RWS It’s the Game Changer, Kelly was the only one to start against the clock and opted to retire before jumping a fence.

She was deemed the winner and the following 10 combinations placed in the following order: Ruby Kelly with Little Red Baron; Colm Widger and Creevelea Larrybo; Isabelle Mangan and Rts Killult Dawn; Willow O’Connor and Tullaree Casanova; Blathnaid Murphy and the eight-year-old Orchid’S Serata; Ava O’Neill and Tynagh Sunshine; Ella Rush and Shadow Dash; Rachel Sheehan and Cuffesgrange In It To Win It; Ellie Sheane and Conazar; Grace Wycherley and Caheragh Lad.

Claiming victory in the 138cm six/seven-year-olds, where there were just three to qualify, was Munster’s Nikita Dennehy (M) aboard Norma Alison Dennehy’s six-year-old Killerisk Rosehill Empire when they were awarded a strong score of 80 marks. Leinster’s Lauren McGrath with the six-year-old Colorado Springs Bs and Ulster’s Ellie Bingham and the seven-year-old Drumree Willow, finished on a score of 74.25 to share second place, while in fourth was Charlotte Foley and the seven-year-old Cool Infinity on a mark of 73.25. Chloe Clarke claimed fifth place with the six-year-old Brummerhoeve’s Salomon H on a mark of 73, while in sixth was Isabell Mangan and Arctic Fire on a score of 71.25.

128cm

A total of 55 combinations took on the 128cm track which went to two rounds and resulted in nine double clears, with just seven to qualify. Fastest of those was Caitie McEvoy and Tynnan Tuttle Pip in a time of 34.27. Not content with the win, she also claimed a second qualifying slot when fourth with Dutch Lady.

Brian Chow Hannan and Burnham Mist took the runner-up spot in 35.51. Khloe McLaughlin accounted for third place in 35.56 aboard Linde Hoeve’s Ricardo. Fifth place belonged to Isobelle Keating and Sheeaun Santa Cruz (36.58). Accounting for sixth place was Isla McKinty on the eight-year-old Killorglin Boy (36.69). Gracie Kelly took seventh place when she clocked 39.22 with Red City Sparrow.

Leading the victory lap in the 128cm six/seven-year-olds was Connaught’s Ellen Ryan aboard Jamie Costello’s six-year-old Bronheulog Ruben when they were awarded 73.5 marks. Following closely behind was Alicia Kernan and the six-year-old Jackpot De Lirane on a score of 73.25. Lillie Cash added to her haul when she took third with the six-year-old, Newhaven Millie on a mark of 69.25. Taking fourth place was Darragh Donovan and the six-year-old Brookhall Royal Ensign, finishing on a mark of 68.25. Mia Maloney and Miss Pebbles Cherie (7yo) claimed fifth (67), ahead of Taylor O’Neill and the seven-year-old Shirsheen Cooley (66.25).
