A STARTING field of 88 in the six-year-old qualifier at Barnadown, which offered 12 tickets to the Dublin Horse Show, was reduced to just 30 after the first round over the 1.30m track. That number was divided in two during round two, when just 15 combinations left all the poles in place to progress to the third round.

Young rider Eoin Brennan and his family’s home-bred mare GCS Angelina came out on top with a triple clear in 37.78 to secure the win. By Aganix Du Seigneur, she is out of GCS Athina, by Vigo D’Arsouilles.

Hans Jurgen Kuehnle’s home-bred mare Tullibards Pandora (Tullibards Benny’s Legacy x Grandeur) was guided into the runner-up spot by medal-winning event rider Cathal Daniels in 40.46.

Susan Fitzpatrick rode her own French-bred stallion Jad’Or Du Lavoir into third place in 40.59, while Max Foley and Marion Hughes’ home-bred HHS Lexington (Luidam x Cavalier Royal) took fourth in 40.94.

Harry Wood and Olga Doyle’s French-bred mare placed fifth, ahead of Willie Cusack’s stallion Ardragh Drc Drifter (Ardragh Me O Moy x Kannan), bred by Oliver Ward, who was partnered to sixth place by Damien Griffin in 42.25.

Lt Raphael Lee and the Minister For Defence’s Fortside Lisbaun (Sligo Candy Boy x Lux Z), bred by Padraig Arthur, took seventh place, while Cian Byrne and Gerald Kilbride’s Larina Cruise (Loch Cruise x Tabasco Van Erpekom), bred by Micheal Kenny, were eighth.

The final places went to SDF Five Star (Big Star x Lux Z) and Eoin Brennan, Lt Michaeli Byrne and LVS Galtee, Jack Ryan riding Tarthagobreaker-M, and Abigail Boland with Gorsevalley Camante.

The next, and final, qualifier for young horses takes place in Mullingar on June 25th.
