JESSICA Murphy won the Intermediate championship at Killossery Lodge Stud on Sunday with her mother Melissa’s Darcy de Chanteloube but, frustratingly, only managed to be placed, twice, on Mary McDonnell’s Highview Royal Merlin.
The Co Wexford rider put matters to right on Wednesday at The Meadows where she and McDonnell’s seven-year-old gelding, who most disappointingly has no recorded pedigree, won the 153cm RDS working hunter qualifier on a score of 87.2. The combination also qualified last year for the Dublin Horse Show, where they finished second in their class to the Hannah Mackey-ridden Ella’s Melody who placed sixth in the 158cm class here.
Frustrated
Although she secured two RDS tickets on Wednesday, Co Kilkenny’s Aoibhinn Ruane will have been frustrated that her journey north hadn’t resulted in a win. Here, in the 153cm class she finished second on her mother Helena Hennessy Ruane’s 12-year-old chesnut gelding Dartans Atom Man (84.5), while in the 158cm class she slotted into third with Birol Nadir’s 10-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding Zavy Echo (80.5).
Co Tipperary’s Chloe Doyle recorded a comprehensive success on Tullohea Tic Toc in the 133cm qualifier where four of the 25 starters failed to complete. Sadly, there is no recorded pedigree either for this 14-year-old piebald gelding who finished fourth in his class at Dublin last August. On Wednesday, Lauren Walsh finished second with her mother Gillian’s 22-year-old bay gelding Castlequarter Jack (75.5).
Entries for the third RDS working hunter pony qualifier at Killossery Lodge Stud next Wednesday, June 25th, close tomorrow, Sunday, while those for the fourth leg at Barnadown on Wednesday week, July 2nd, close on Sunday next, June 29th.
