CLEARS over Ray Doyle’s track were at a premium on Tuesday at Forth Mountain, where the third of four working hunter qualifiers was held in conjunction with the Young Eventhorse Series.
This was especially so in the five and six-year-old lightweight class, where only the winner left all the fences intact. This was the 2021 Irish Sport Horse gelding A Dignified Approach (Dignified van’t Zorgvliet - Perfect Mix E, by Aquilino), who was ridden for owner/breeder Sinead Brennan by Tom Hayden.
For all that he jumped clear for a total of 83 marks, A Dignified Approach had only three marks in hand over the second-placed five-year-old ISH gelding Honeycomb Quality (by OBOS Quality 004) who, ridden by Gwen Scott for Eugene Milligan, outscored the winner in way of going (15 to 14), conformation (18 to 14) and ride (17 to 15).
Also bagging a ticket here were William Flood with Jane Kinsella’s ISH mare Toberpatrick So Dignified (74), a home-bred six-year-old by Dignified van’t Zorgvliet, Jason Furlong with Scott Ryan’s ISH gelding Drumcashel Ferro (72), a 2020 son of Ferro Grey Star, and Roisin Cahill with her father Patrick’s ISH gelding Sir Bobs Alot (63).
This bay, by the once-raced thoroughbred Toto Pectore, is out of the Chinook Eclipse mare Aoife Lady, a full-sister to Cooley Eclipse (CCI3*-S) and Dunrath Eclipse (WEG-C).
Jason Furlong picked up a second ticket on the day, when winning the five-year-old and upwards heavyweight class on 90 marks with Lucy Ann Barry’s Irish Draught gelding Ludden Silver Chieftain (Cloncastle Silver Squire - Ludden Heather, by Killcotton Cross). This combination was fifth at Dublin last August.
The Eamonn Kennedy-bred nine-year-old was one of two horses in this class to record a clear round, the second on 89 marks being another grey ID gelding, Ballyrussell Misty (Kiltybane Naldo - Rosco Rebel, by Huntingfield Rebel), an eight-year-old who filled the runner-up spot under his owner, Jenny Williams.
