TATTERSALLS Ireland will host the George Mernagh Tattersalls Horse Trials tomorrow, Sunday. The event, previously held in August, has been reshaped for 2026 with a new date, a redesigned cross-country track from international course designer Paul Brady, and the introduction of a six-year-old EI110 class competing for a perpetual trophy bearing George’s name.

The one-day Horse Trials will feature a full programme of dressage, show jumping and cross-country across a range of classes, all affiliated to Eventing Ireland. With entries now closed, we can confirm that top riders including Sarah Ennis, Joseph Murphy, Clare Abbott, Alice Copithorne, Elizabeth Power, Godfrey Gibbons and Maeve Deverell will compete.

Edmond Mahony, Chairman of Tattersalls, said: “I just want to thank my Board, Simon Kerins and the team here, because without them it wouldn’t be happening. Also to Cormac O’Rourke, who is Manager of the grounds here, as he has really got behind it. When Tattersalls bought this site in 1988, the objective was always to have a multitude of equestrian sports here. We have the Point-to-Point course here, the July Show, and the eventing was a logical addition which George pioneered and progressed.”

The George Mernagh Memorial Fund Limited (GMMF) was established in memory of the late George Mernagh, former Managing Director of Tattersalls Ireland, to foster youth participation and support the continued development of the equestrian sector. It supports initiatives that reflect George’s lasting contribution to the sport and his commitment to its future.
