DENIS Currie had a busy Saturday at Glenpatrick. He finished runner-up in the EI110 (Amateur) on his 16-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding Merlot and then oversaw the warm-up of his grandson Isaac McCarthy, who was to win the EI90 on Denis’s former mount, the 21-year-old ISH gelding Arodstown Aramis.

Currie then had the pleasurable task of presenting the day’s landowner and fellow EI110 (Amateur) rider Britt Megahey, with a trophy recognising ‘his supremacy in the All-Ireland EI110 Amateur league last year’.

While it doesn’t seem possible that the Megaheys could do more for the sport of eventing than host a fixture at such a lovely venue as Glenpatrick, officials, volunteers, riders and their supporters alike are looking forward to the unveiling of the family’s new venue of Island Lodge on Saturday, August 29th.
