THE South Munster Region of Dressage Ireland were asked to stage a demonstration at Cork Summer Show last Sunday week, providing the public with an insight into the discipline on day two of the Munster Agricultural Society’s weekend fixture.
Regional member Emily Kate Robinson partnered the Cheltenham Gold Cup and four-time Grade 1 winner A Plus Tard as she gave a display on the retraining of a racehorse.
Afterwards, the 12-year-old French-bred gelding, who won the racehorse to riding horse class at Dublin last August and has 65 DI points to his credit, did a meet and greet with his fans.
South Munster Grand Prix rider Sue Smallman impressed the crowd when getting her gentle giant Gloriant H, a 15-year-old 170cm Dutch Warmblood gelding, to show off his elegant paces.
In conclusion, Emily Kate rode a Freestyle on her Prix St George mount Edvaard, a 17-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding.
FEI judge Marie Hennessy, who presented the demonstration, talked through the movements being performed, the background of South Munster Dressage and how to become a Dressage Ireland member.
