THE Northern Ireland Carriage Driving Association (NICDA) continued its Danescroft Spring World Cup Trilogy on Saturday with a well-supported and competitive second event, held in breezy conditions with only a brief passing shower.

Following the established carriage driving format, competitors opened with the cones phase before progressing to dressage, a structure that once again proved influential in shaping the final placings. The dressage phase was judged by Sara Clinghan, who, alongside her officiating duties, also conducted a driving dressage judging seminar for prospective judges, providing valuable insight and education within the sport.

There were strong performances across all sections. Mark McAleese topped the Gateway class, while Emma Berwick delivered an impressive result in the Novice Horse division, taking a one-two with Jack and Jasper. Elsewhere, Philip Stranney won the Novice Pony, with Jeffrey Lyons taking the honours in Open Horse. Denise Taylor headed the Open Pony class ahead of Jim Magennis, while Christine Wright secured first place in Pony Pair.

The Pre-Novice Pony class was particularly competitive, with Joe McAleese finishing ahead of Chloe McCombe, James Hare and Megan McOuat. Jacqueline Magennis completed the list of winners in the Small Pony/VSE section.

The event also saw a number of first-time participants take part, which included equines and backsteppers, reflecting the continued development and accessibility of carriage driving in the region.

Considerable credit is due to those working behind the scenes. The course builders prepared a flowing and fair cones course, while stewards and volunteers contributed significantly to the smooth running of the day.

Prize giving duties were carried out by visiting guest Mary Bryson, who travelled from Scotland to support the event. Appreciation was also extended to JB Equine Photography, with competitors looking forward to his #AmazingPhotography from the day.

The final leg of the Danescroft Spring World Cup Trilogy is scheduled for Saturday, April 25th, where overall series standings will be decided. For updates and further information, visit the Northern Ireland Carriage Driving Association Facebook page.
