THE Kerry Bog Pony Co-operative Society Limited held the first of their 2026 Breed Inspections, funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine at the picturesque surroundings of the Red Fox Inn, in Glenbeigh, County Kerry, by kind permission of John Mulvihill and family on Saturday, June 6th.

A total of 11 ponies were presented for inspection. Three new young stallions achieved Class 1 status.

The inspectors, Sharon Fitton and David Lynch, commented that the quality and standard of the ponies brought forward this year was very good. The stallions that met the inspection requirements were King of Cullinagh, sired by Lyre Bog Chieftain and owned by John Hyde; Lyre Jasper Moon dreamer, sired by Ventry Dreamer and owned by Damien De Barra; Bog Caher Mickey, sired by Tramena Giggs and owned by Tim Dennehy. Seven mares and fillies also achieved Class 1 status.

The society would like to thank all the owners and handlers, who presented ponies for inspection, and the Mulvihill family for providing the venue and refreshments for all those involved. The society also wishes to thank the veterinary surgeon Dáire Clifford, the inspectors and all those who assisted in the smooth running of a successful inspection day for the Kerry Bog Pony Studbook. The society also wishes to express its gratitude for the continued support of the Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine and Horse Sport Ireland. The next inspections will take place in Athlone on August 29th.
