THE Connaught region is gearing up for an exciting summer of show jumping as its horse and amateur leagues will kick off on May 3rd in Galway Equestrian, followed by six other rounds and finishing with the Connaught Super Grand Prix Show.

Among the driving forces behind the league is sponsor Liam Lynskey of Derryronane Stud, who expressed his enthusiasm: “As main sponsor, we’re very proud to support the Grand Prix League. With the season beginning over the May Bank Holiday, there’s a great sense of anticipation and we’re looking forward to an exciting and successful series.”

But before the first league fences are jumped, all eyes will turn to Duffy’s Equestrian Centre on April 26th, where the Connaught Amateur Spring Show takes centre stage. This key early-season event offers riders the perfect opportunity to sharpen their skills, ahead of both the Connaught League and RDS qualifiers.

The Spring Show will feature three classes designed to cater for all Amateur and Sportsmember levels, ensuring a competitive and inclusive day of sport. With a prize fund exceeding €2,500, alongside a host of fuel, general, and equestrian vouchers, competitors will have plenty to ride for.

The event is made possible thanks to the generous support of sponsors including Friends of Connaught Amateurs, O’Brien Cement, Jim Derwin Equestrian, and Niall Earls EasyFix. Special recognition is also due to local amateur Liam Hennessy, whose vision and determination brought the show to life, rallying sponsors and support from across the community.

With top-class competition, strong local backing, and an atmosphere charged with anticipation, Connaught’s equestrian season is shaping up to be one not to miss.
