AREA 17’s best result in a team competition at the recent JCB Pony Club championships at Offchurch Bury in Warwickshire came at PC100 level in eventing.
Twenty-six teams lined out with Hannah Thompson (Jemella Charm), Lauren McGlennon (Ferros Kandy), Cayleigh Erwin (Murph) and Erin McCrea (Rubane Candy) claiming the reserve slot on 114.5 penalties. The VAH Windsor Branch took the honours on 96.8 with East Cheshire Sapphires finishing third on 117.3.
Individually, Mid Antrim’s Thompson fared best of the quartet as she also finished second in Arena A on her 15-year-old traditionally-bred Irish Sport Horse mare Jameela Charm (by Loughry Lad) with whom she won an EI100 (Amateur) at The Clare in early July. Of the others, the North Downs’ McGlennon was best-placed in 10th in Arena B.
The very busy East Antrim member Erin McCrea was ninth of 63 in The Chairman’s Cup on Eisfee.
At PC90 level, the best result for an Area 17 team member was recorded in Arena I by the North Downs’ Holly Blythe who finished third on her mother Shona’s Connemara gelding Mano Of Deerpark, a six-year-old son of Shadows Dun.
Individual
Competing as an individual, Tullylagan’s Kym Moore was eighth in her Arena on the seven-year-old ISH gelding Marlacoos Ralph.
Better known for his performances over coloured poles, the seven-year-old Echonix bay was partnered by Moore on the Area 17 team, which finished fifth in the PC110 show jumping championship. Moore had a second ride on the team, Corkhill Black Ice, with Lauren McGlennon lining out with the individual ninth, Carrick Kilderrys Diamond.
These results weren’t matched at PC100 or PC90 level but in the PC100 competition, Tullylagan’s Kym Moore and Mid Antrim’s Jessica Mark finished first and second in the horsemanship rankings.
