A LARGE squad of Irish Pony Club members is heading over to Moreton Morrell College in England next week for this year’s Tetrathlon Junior Home International. The annual event is described on The Pony Club website as being “one of the most exciting competitions on the Tetrathlon calendar”.

The Boys’ contingent comprises Alex Barry (Limerick), Max Doran (Killinick), Jack Hargaden (Carlow), Tom Hickey (Wexford), Blake Kavanagh (Wexford), Luca Kinsella (Wexford), John Kirby (Limerick), Jack Landy (Tipperary), Darragh O’Brien (Carlow), Paddy O’Callaghan (Tipperary), J.J. Power (Limerick) and Cillian Tobin (Carlow).

As usual, the Girls’ group is even bigger and is drawn from a larger pool of Branches.

In alphabetical order, those travelling are Zoe Boydell (Wicklow), Martha Buckley (Limerick), Elizabeth Cook (North Kilkenny), Sarah Finn (Wexford), Isabelle Galligan (Wicklow), Catlin Griffiths (Killinick), Tasmin Haughey (Meath), Hannah Hennessy Murphy (Wexford), Ali Hughes (Carlow), Anna Rose Hughes (Kilkenny), Caroline Hughes (Kilkenny) and Hannah Hussey (Galway Mid County).

The list continues with Orla Kelly (Carlow), Julie McDonald (Waterford), Cara Molloy (Golden Vale), Kate Murphy (Limerick), Evelyn Murray (Longford), Robyn O’Reilly (Tipperary), Matilda Ormond (Waterford), Mia Perry (North Kilkenny), Grace Power (Limerick), Gloria Queally (Kildare), Aaran Tabb (Waterford), Aoibheen Turner (Duhallow) and Aoife Walsh (Duhallow).

John Flood, the IPC’s chair of Tetrathlon, was disappointed that Henry Buckley (Limerick), Pippa Dunne (Kildare) and Clodagh Reilly (Ward Union) have had to drop out from the trip for one reason or another. As passionate as ever about the sport, Flood will be travelling over to Warwickshire. He revealed to the Irish Horse World that it will cost roughly €20,000 to transport the ponies alone and for processing all the paperwork required since Brexit.
