MEMBERS of the Kilkenny Hunt Branch of the Irish Pony Club, and a few minders, had an excellent start to their mid-term break, as they took the train up to Dublin on Tuesday to visit the Army Equitation School at McKee Barracks.

Under the heading ‘A very special visit to the Army Equitation School’, we learned of the visitors’ experience. “A huge thank you to Comdt Geoff Curran and all the team at McKee Barracks for such a wonderful welcome for our Kilkenny Hunt Pony Club members.

“It was a real privilege to meet the team, learn more about life at the Army Equitation School and see the exceptional facilities at McKee Barracks first-hand. Meeting the beautiful Irish-bred horses ridden by the team was a particular highlight, and everyone was so generous with their time, knowledge and encouragement.

“We have a few budding riders, who are already very interested in pursuing a career in equitation, so to see this world up close and hear from the people who live and breathe it was truly special.

“A special thank you to Sgt Barry Kehoe for showing us around the yard, your love for what you do Barry was infectious, and Lt James Bracken, Pte Tami McNutt, Lt Raphael Lee and Lt Ruairi Clarke for taking the time to meet with us, share their experiences and make our visit so memorable.

“Experiences like these can inspire young riders in ways that last a lifetime. Thank you all for such a special day!”

The previous day, at the Kilkenny Hunt’s children’s meet in Coolmeen, six members had the opportunity of learning about his job and the hounds when spending time with huntsman Jamie Walsh.
