THREE rings were in operation at the end-of-season inter club Derby and fun show run by the Meath Hunt Branch of the Irish Pony Club at Nugentstown last Sunday.

In Ring 1, where members were introduced to showing, there was a ridden pony double for the hosts thanks to Sasha Smith on Andy (riders under 12) and Kieran Dunne with Napoleon (riders over 12). The perfect pony class for riders under 12 was won by Newcastle Lyons’s Emma Creighton on Derryglass Lad while Emily Donohoe of the Rathfarmham Branch landed the over 12s’ class with Prince.

The lower height Derby classes were staged in Ring 2 where Donohoe and Prince doubled up at 40cm level. The Meaths’ Harriet Dillon won the 70cm Derby with Rascal, on whom she then divided the spoils in the 60cm class with the Ward Union’s Safina O’Connor on Casper. There was an eight-way divide in the 50cm Derby, but Ella Sharkey of the Meath Branch was the outright winner of the cross-poles class.

Eva Kiernan of the Meath Branch recorded a double in Ring 3 where she won both the 90cm Derby and the 1m Derby on board Bueno. The Wards’ Anna May Keogh came out on top in the 80cm Derby with Indian Joe.
