MANY congratulations to Scott Kenny, a former member of the North Tipperary and Ormond Branch of the Irish Pony Club, who recorded his first win in a point-to-point at the Ormond Foxhounds’ meeting in Ballingarry last Saturday.
The 19-year-old’s three-and-a-half-length success came in the four-runner open race on the French-bred, odds-on favourite In Excelsis Deo. The eight-year-old Saddex gelding is owned and trained by Enda Bolger, for whom Scott mainly works while also helping out at home where his father Graham holds a licence to train.
Their yard is very much a mixed one, with racehorses, eventers, hunters and show horses and ponies all combined. A day after Scott’s win in Ballingarry, his sisters Abigail (17) and Brooke (15), who are current members of the North Tipp and Ormond, competed in the RDS working hunter pony qualifier at Banner Equestrian, where they failed to secure a ticket but did finish inside the top 10 with Hogan The Brave (158cm) and Cupid’s Magic Shadow (153cm).
