THE Mid Antrim Branch of The Pony Club ran a two-phase event along with a Triathlon/Tetrathlon over the weekend at Laurel View Equestrian where they received much-appreciated sponsorship from Clonkeen Equestrian Supplies, Equi-Tog and the Henry Brothers. The best-supported two-phase classes were the 80cm, which had to be divided, and the 70cm.

There were 31 starters in that 70cm class where the winner, on a penalty score of six, was Jessica Smyth riding the Irish Sport Horse mare, Autumns Gold, a 13-year-old chesnut daughter of WRS Meelin Flagmount.

The divisions of the 80cm class were won by Mid Antrim’s Lizzy Rankin on Tony The Pony (4.8) and Seskinore’s Catherine Beattie on board the 20-year-old skewbald gelding Cloonlee Red River (1.2).

Competitions

The five Tetrathlon competitions were won by the Iveaghs’ Harry Purdy (3,645), who was the only starter in the Open boys, Killultagh Branch member Olivia Stewart (4,150) who saw off two opponents to win the Junior girls, the Fermanaghs’ Maia Roulston-McAuliffe (4,168) who, likewise, faced just two rivals in the Minimus Tetrathlon, the East Antrims’ Lucy Johnston, who topped the final leaderboard in the seven-strong Tadpole Tetrathlon on 4,156 and her clubmate Lily Crawford.

The last-named recorded one of three clear rounds in the 10-strong Beanie Tetrathlon on her way to a score of 4,031.

The Area 17 Mounted Games championships take place next Saturday at Oak Tree Farm, Hillsborough.
