THERE were some bleary-eyed polo players last Sunday week after the exertions on the dancefloor the night before at the Polo Players ‘End of Season’ Polo Ball.

Players and friends enjoyed a sumptuous meal from the culinary team of Tankardstown House, who’ve been outstanding hospitality partners for the 2025 polo season. But no bleary eyes on the Wexford team who wisely stayed away from the shenanigans of the night before as a 28-year plan finally came to fruition for Paddy Casey and his team when on Sunday, Wexford were crowned the winners of the beautiful Pakistan Cup 4 Goal tournament, the final tournament of what has been a marvellous season of polo at the All Ireland Polo Club in the Phoenix Park.

At the presentation, Paddy thanked his team for the hard work that they had put into the ponies this summer with great success, and he added that he’d been “looking for this cup for the past 28 years” since he first started polo. He also thanked the runners up, CBA Ventures, who put up a great battle.

The Wexford team consisted of Paddy Casey, Emma Casey, Francisco Peluffo and Luis Aguirre, with the runners up, CBA Ventures, consisting of Caroline Keeling, Siobhan Herbst, Mark Stone and Tom Small.

The Ronan Cup 0 Goal tournament was won also by the Wexford team of Luca Moore, Francisco Peluffo and sisters Siena, Amelie and Summer Moore (see Pony Tales page 89) with the runners-up Pegus Polo team of David Stone, Mark Stone, Nick Murphy and Jimmy Byrne.

The winning teams of both tournaments were presented with a bottle each of The Mad Marquess Whiskey compliments of Curraghmore Whiskey, the sponsors of the tournament weekend and presented by the Earl of Tyrone, Richard Le Poer, whose ancestor inspired the name of the latest Curraghmore Whiskey.

Treo Eile representative, Tom Harris, was on hand to award the winners of the Best Playing Thoroughbreds for both tournament levels. The winners were Elegant Emmeline, owned by Paddy Casey and played by Francisco Peluffo, and Ugly Betty, owned and played by Mark Stone.
