TREO Eile are offering support to thoroughbreds who are travelling abroad to compete. A Travel Bursary up to €375 is available to contribute towards costs associated with paperwork when travelling abroad. To be eligible thoroughbreds must:

  • Be registered with Treo Eile.
  • Be officially named with Weatherbys or equivalent racing studbook. This can be done for “non-racing purposes”, please contact hello@treoeile.com for the correct form.
  • Have their ownership correct on their passport (this is free to do) using this form: Treo Eile Transfer Ownership 2026.
  • The bursary will be given to the same horse/rider combination once per calendar year. The awarding of a bursary is at the sole discretion of Treo Eile. Once you return from your trip complete the application form linked below and submit with receipts of expenses. Last year was the first year Treo Eile offered the bursary, and Orlagh Halliday was one of the recipients who travelled to the UK with her horse Cold War.

“The Travel Bursary provided by Treo Eile was a huge help in covering travel costs, making it much easier to take full advantage of the opportunity,” she said.

“The trip to Cornbury Horse Trials for the Racehorse to Eventer Challenge Cup went very well and provided valuable experience and insight that will benefit both myself and my thoroughbred, Cold War, going forward. Treo Eile do an amazing job supporting the retraining of retired racehorses, and I’m very grateful for their support, which highlights the range of options available and encourages others to explore the opportunities for their thoroughbreds.”
