HORSE Sport Ireland Youth Eventing High Performance Manager Debbie Byrne has selected the Junior and Young rider eventing squads to compete at the European Championships taking place in Segerso, Sweden from August 26th to 30th.

“It’s an exciting time for youth eventers, having medalled at under-25 and pony levels already and I have depth and experience on both squads,” Byrne said. “I am confident with our ability to perform at the highest level and be successful. I want to thank the parents, owners, coaches and sponsors for getting us to this stage, as their support is crucial for the development of our young athletes.”

The young rider squad includes Ben Connors with Zuperlative (direct reserve OLS King Aragon (ISH)), Oleana Cowan with RCA Royal Mist, Jasper Kelly with Agatha Raisin (ISH), Amelia McCarthy with Finsceal Endeavour (ISH), Anna Nangle with Stroke of Genius (ISH) and Ciara O’Connor with Ashwood Iron Lady (ISH). The reserves are Lucy McDowell with Glenvine Codename R (ISH) and Molly O’Connor with Stillbrook Aoife (ISH).

The junior squad includes Izzy Barrett with Oakfield Cooley (ISH), Maeve Deverell with Annaharvey Dunowen (ISH), Katie Gibbons with Milchem Free Spirit (ISH), Zara McCarthy with Romans Special Envoy (ISH), Niamh Verkade with Duniro (ISH) and Carla Williamson with Powers (ISH). The reserves are David Nyhan with Coolafancy (ISH) and Phonsie Wardell with Oxview Jasper (CP).
